Plus Kidd is nowhere near the defender Harris is and really isnt any better a shooter. Not sure how you can say that since Kidd has the reputation as one of the best defensive PG's in the league. He's one of the better man-to-man defenders in terms of guards and usually ranks among the steal leaders. I think it would've been a great deal for the Nets, but even though Dallas overpaid they hadn't had resounding playoff success with their current roster. Kidd would've given them a chance.

Devean George's ego is hysterical. By the way, I don't think you realize how great of a player Jason Kidd is. He's not what he was, but he's still outstanding, and he makes them quite a bit better as far as I'm concerned. does Kidd make them a championship team? Answer is NO. Who do we have up front? Dampier and Bass? as much as i like bass he isn't polished enough to play extended time. We need Diop as our only defensive presence.

Harris is a much better man defender than Kidd. Kidd plays the passing lanes well still but even in his prime Kidd had trouble with quicker PG's. Harris has great quickness and according to defensive ratings is the best man to man defender in the lg at PG. Not many guys in the lg can run with Harris. But even without that variable the team just plays so much better with Harris I cant believe they are doing this. For what at most 2 yrs of a declining Kidd? This deal sucks. I may not be a great sim lg GM but I know talent when I'm looking at it. Harris very well may turn into a stud for NJ if they let them run. Thats why I dont get it,Dallas isnt a running team anymore,Kidd is a transition PG ideally. If you were gonna run hell let the younger guy thats faster and more athletic lead the break for you. It just doesnt make sense.

Kidd shoots 37% how does he do in our offense?
Harris shoots 49% is a better scorer and defender doesn't rebound as well as Kidd. Obviously Kidd is a better passer but 10apg to 4topg to Harris 5apg to 2 topg.....I'd like to keep Harris his game is budding and his athleticism is unmatchable

I doubt kidd would put up 4 tpg for dallas. His rebounding skills as a pg are unmatchable, and only Nash is better pg on the break. Defensively he can easily stay in front of his man and can force smaller guards to take bad shots. He also has a keen sense of playing the passing lanes and an uncanny ability to time his steals. Kidd can go up against many two-guards.

I'm not disputing the fact Kidd wouldn't be successful in Dallas however at what cost?
Giving up Harris(25yrs old), Diop(26yrs old), 2 first round picks(very deep class coming out this year and 2010 who knows) for Kidd who will be 35 in another month or so.
Dirk is 30 and Howard is 28 I don't think their "window" is closing anytime soon. The way Dirk plays he can play for a long time.

I'm a nets fan and I loved the deal for us so I understand where your coming from. However i just don't see this current mavs team ever winning a championship. It sounds cliche but kidd is the ultimate facilitator and makes everyone around him better.
Possibly the biggest issue of the deal on the mavs' part is them losing their best frontcourt defender in diop

I don't see why you wouldn't think the Mavs could win a championship we nearly had one against the Heat and lets face it shady refs cost us the trophy. Last year Don Nelson knew everything the mavs were going to do before they did it and it was the worst possible matchup for us. I think you look at our matchups against the suns, spurs, hornets, lakers we matchup very well.

The thing is, Dallas is not a big transition run out on the break team anymore. That left with Nelly. And our offense is basically an ISO offense. Try and isolate Dirk,Howard,Terry,Stackhouse etc and let them try and score or pass it. It's not a motion offense or running offense so I'm not sure Kidd really would have that many assists in this offense. And if he does'nt whats the point of this deal?
To me,Harris straight up for Kidd with salary filler is still a losing deal but at least I could live with it more. But damn Diop and two 1sts also? I just dont like it at all.
Stick to your guns there George.

And a first round matchup against utah or gstate could be fatal for their chances
