Buy or Sell these 5 things. Explain why.
James staying on as a GM after the end of this season.
Buy. I like James and he's very active, but that has nothing to do with it. Bottom line is, he is close right now. He has a fringe playoff team, which I definitely don't think is good enough to make it. However, I know he has attractive young talents and can pull a deal for another star, which will be enough to get him that 8th seed. He said he was close to Duncan, he and I talked about AI, so I think he'll go get what he needs to in order to make the postseason.
A player's ratings will always be looked at first over his stats.
Sell. Terrible GMs may have that strategy, sure, but anyone with a clue knows production is the end all in value. If a guy has B defense but he blocks shots and doesn't get lit up, I'm happy as hell with him in my lineup. Dave is comfortable with what Grant Hill does because his production is better than his ratings suggest. Reilly starts Arvydas for the same reason. To me, if a guy doesn't produce, I never think of taking him on, and I'm sure a lot of guys have the same philosophy. I know how infuriating it can be in trades though when guys bring up ratings to dispute production.
LeBron James will become the best player in the BBS in 4 years.
Buy. Four? He just won a ring, he's doing 30 PPG, he probably still has huge potential. He might be the best player in BBS right now. He's a lock to be the league's best player soon.
Nando has more potential to be a better GM then the 4 of us.
Sell. Three of us have won rings, and I think two seasons from now when Mark stops tanking, the four of us will all have perennial playoff teams. Nanz can aspire to that, and maybe he can be as good as you or Mark, but right above us you're talking guys like Reilly and Outlawz, and nobody has the potential to be that good until they are that good, if that makes sense. It's impossible to predict that Nanz will be the next Outlawz.
Dave Krupinski has hit his peak as far as GM potential is concerned.
Sell. It's hard to go up from where Dave is, but I don't think he's hit his peak. Why? He showed two seasons ago that in the spirit of a silly bet, he was willing to sacrifice his future to make the playoffs. He should have had Galo and Jordan's lottos along with Bron and Amare, and I know he regrets trading them away. I also don't buy the dynasty hype; he can't win with Hill and Wallace forever--they're both going to decline soon. I think he needs to add a different, younger piece to his lineup, probably at PG, before we can say he clearly has the best team in BBS in a given year. I think he's a great GM, and he makes the deals others aren't willing to think about, but I think he could afford to shed the rivalries and worry about his own play in order to do what's best for his future.
Here are the name of 10 gm's. Please write a brief few lines on what you think of their managerial skills. Positive and negative.
aar- Duncan trade was horrible. He lowballs in trades and needs to shake up his team. I love the fast, outside play he had, and I think he mistook his team for something it wasn't; they had a great niche that made them an offensive powerhouse and a contender, and going to a conventional lineup made them a bit more average. Still, he's done an impressive job.
maniac-Blah, must get boring. I hate when players are unavailable, and I don't think he has much of a chance to build something big around Hinrich and Arenas. Dealt Shaq to get Arenas, and all he's added so far is Hinrich. That's unimpressive. I don't know, he always has Hinrich available but seems stingy since nothing has happened.
ebener-I love his team, but I think they're headed toward JAH territory, which is to say, they're going to level off and be just another middle-of-the-pack playoff team. He did a good job though and deserves credit for winning.
scott-I thought he was pretty bad in the first BBS until he built something nice with Mayo, but ever since then he's been kinda boring again. I go back and forth with him, but I definitely think he's capable of doing a much better job. He won a ring, which does say something, but how he does with his rebuild will say a lot more.
allstar-Not particularly good. Completely unexciting, and he's one of those guys who throws in some posts but doesn't do shit for his team. His hiring so far has been a total bust. I've never thought much of the way he runs teams, just kinda generic and he doesn't make the big trades. Also lowballed me severely in UOSL.
a2j-One season and you're rebuilding? You landed Dyess in FA, and I want to believe that you're elite, but you better be back on top in two seasons. West/Dunleavy is a good core, but you need to be more than one and done.
ducky- Ducky fucking sucks. How could you ever like a league if all you do is make every decent player you have unavailable and sit and watch your team predictably lose in the first or second round? He's so stubborn and his method has always failed. Ducky's a good dude and all, but as a GM, ew.
nova- Stingy. Annoying when he IMs me about a player and then says "eh." I hate that Yao's untouchable, and I wouldn't hate if his team weren't turning to shit. Mason was going to be good, and he should've dealt Stack while he had value. Now Stack won't get him anything, he has no PG, and Yao of course is staying. Tends to build very good teams that never win. I don't usually like his DCs. I like Nova though.
tiger-Ew. He lowballs the balls out of trades, of course Marion's untouchable, his team's going nowhere, sucks about Zo but jesus, do something.
galo-Hahahah, Galo's fucking terrible. Everybody knows...Galo blows! I PM'd Galo about Rip. Did he respond? No. Does he need Rip? Yeah. Galo loses like every trade he does and he called me arrogant. Hahah, kinda funny that he called me arrogant and then correct Dave for ironically calling an article the "first annual" of its kind. Also, Galo, quit. You could've had a playoff team even last year if you didn't suck so much with your DC. It's also laughable that Galo makes guys like Darko unavailable. The kind of boring, do-nothing GM that brings BBS down.
Who are the poorest evaluator's of talent in the BBS?
Ducky. He doesn't know what a role player is, he calls all his mediocre players studs, his team has no chemistry, and he lowballs everyone.
I think Martinez is the worst. He dealt Artest for Billups to build around...Jackson and Butler? I know he constantly runs off his defenses, but the fact is, those are two unproductive guys, and he needs a great PG to run a fast tempo and kick it to them on the outside, just like he needs some good defensive bigs inside, and he has nothing but two mediocre guards and won't wake up to the fact that he needs to do something big. He also paid Dalembert a terrible contract.
Which GM's overrate their talent in the BBS?
Which? Like everyone does. Skillz does, but he's open to big trades, so he's my boy. Nova of course does, he'll never even consider a deal if mentions Yao, and he called RMJ a stud. Nova, you're my boy, relax. Aar I talked trade with a few times and just gave up because it was mission impossible. And, of course, Ducky's fucking impossible to ever trade with. More please! JAH. JAH might put up blocks, but seriously, he never trades because he always thinks his team is full of elite players. Why didn't Walker or Pierce go anywhere last BBS? They sat and declined as JAH's chances faded because he thought they were better than they were. Hey, Habes, keep going. I hate talking trade with Tiger, and I don't even want to think of what he'd be asking for, for Redd. Marion being untouchable while his team's in the shitter is a joke.
Habes, don't stop. Do it Habes. OK! James wouldn't fucking do Boozer and Gordon for AI, funniest shit ever to me. Dirk and AI, or Dirk, a C defender and a guy who doe s 10 ppg?
To me, it's funny. The top guys, like Dave, Outlawz, Reilly...they trade. You think, if they didn't get the right offer, those guys wouldn't move Shaq, Amare or Artest tonight? But everyone else seems to think that once they have their stud, they can sit tight and magically they'll have a title team.
Did I say I was done? No, I didn't. "So keeping going, Habes." Shut the fuck up, I'm going to.
Oh, shit. Keelty does. He's my boy, but there's no reason to keep Manu while the ship sinks. At least make him available; he's not really that great, and you're better off with firsts.
Call-Out Time. Pick any GM and tell us why you know your better then he is at this game.
Mark. Dear Mark, you get bored with BBS and you quit the shit out of it, and you fucking suck, asshole. Outlawz ranked you first, kinda cracked me up. You lucked out and got Manu and AK in FA, and then lucked out and dealt Manu and Toine for Shaq, and then lucked out and won a ring. What's next, you luck out and Antonio Daniels is a stud? HA! Sucks. You're overrated, bitch.
Ok, who am I better than? I'm not that good. I'm just fun, and I prove that you can win and have fun. I make blockbuster deals left and right, and there are ton of guys who aren't open to the kind of trades I do because they don't like a) losing the top talent in a trade or b) plainly, trading stars. But I'd say I'm better than those guys just because I've built a winner by doing that, and yeah, they may be more consistent, but I'd rather win a ring and win 15 games two years later, in order to ultimately get back on top within a season, than just sit and win 47. Think of it:
55 wins, ring
48 wins, playoff loss
20 wins, lotto pick
48 wins
55 wins
Have I done that yet? Well, I won a ring, made the playoffs, won like 15, and then won 48. Does that make me a great GM? No. I make tons of questionable deals, but so many guys are afraid to take risks that they just sit with what they have and go nowhere. So I guess what I'm saying is I just like what guys like Skillz and I do more than the guys like Ducky, Nova, Aar, EVEN YOU PIG RECENTLY you lazy fuck.
I'm better than Martinez. How's that?
Pick out 2 GM's and tell us why one of them is better than the other.
Reilly is better than Krup. Everyone's seen the way Reilly trades when he has time, and if he wanted to, he could have the best team in the league in two weeks. Reilly gets guys to do deals that just don't make sense for them because he always has seven really good pieces to deal and a ton of picks. Right now, he doesn't have time, but the guy ran off like 7 rings in 8 BBS seasons. Nobody can build a team as loaded with stars as Reilly. It says something that Reilly has less time than guys like Galo, DJ, etc. and he's the only one whose team is still pretty awesome.
Final Question.
Who are the 5 most trouble-stirring, controversial GM's in the league.
This is a mediocre question because it doesn't ask me to criticize, just to analyze. Halla, I rhymed! Yeeee!
Martinez, first. He doesn't shut the fuck up and he makes himself an easy target because his team blows. I liked the guy for a bit but he stopped being funny. Obvious choice though.
Dave, another obvious choice. Dave, you always have a million reasons why you're always right and they always suck. Shut the fuck up, you're full of shit.
Nah, you're OK, but seriously, I don't read your posts.
Me. Me! I'm like that feisty little Jew asshole that loves to get into shit. Not as much anymore because I like the guys in BBS, except for the inactive ones, like Galo, who fucking sucks. I also miss when DJ and Manas were busy being total twats on BBS, because oh man, it was fun to actually hate the shit out of somebody for how arrogant and shitty they were.
Outlawz. He's always saying shit like, "man up and bet me. Oh? You'll bet me? Ten Gs. Me and ma boys vs. you NC boys, bet for a haystack. Damn, this turns me on, lol." What the fuck is a haystack? I love Outlawz because he's sick at trading and a nice dude.
And, uh, Lumley. Fucking Lums. Shut the fuck up, I don't care about your football simulation leagues, or your created basketball players, or Verizon, or your days off, or the upskirts you and AIG used to talk about, you pervert. You are weird. I love Lums.
James staying on as a GM after the end of this season.
