Does it work? Do you like it? Does it add more to the league, or does it force you to make moves unjustly?
Discuss.

I'm impartial. I think it's a bit unfair in certain circumstances, but I think the intent of the contract year is perfect.

I like it still. I think its very realistic and I think its pretty attainable. There are always about 10 teams tanking each year which means it really shouldn't be that tough to win 40, or make the playoffs. it increases competition. I am scared about losing good GMs when it seems we have run out of a good wait list, but hopefully anyone fired will come back when there is another opening.

Honestly, my biggest complaint is the '40 win' plateau. I know it's picky, but having to achieve 40 wins seems like a really random, odd goal. I think you should either have to make the playoffs or you're done in your contract year. Now most of the time a team that wins 40 games will make the playoffs, but what is the accomplishment of winning 40 and missing the playoffs? I see no significance in that.

We could change it to 41, that'd make more sense. I guess I just wanted it to be somewhat more attainable. I did 40 instead of 41 because it was a even number.

I love the contract year. I couldn't imagine BBS without it. Maniac makes a fair point about 40, but I like it as is. I want people to succeed in their contract year, and "40 and/or playoffs" is potentially easier than just playoffs. I don't want people fired, I just don't want them tanking for more than three years.

Love it. I think 40 wins is fine, but 41 would make slightly more sense.
I do think there should be an * added because if say a team is in their contract year and their star player goes down for a long period of time, I don't think they should get fired.

Yes they should. There shouldn't be any asterisks, because then people will always try and argue for their situation. If your player gets hurt, well, it's your fault for sucking the previous three years.

So if your in your contract year, and your star, let's just say its Deron, goes out on Day 65 for the rest of the season, and you end up missing the cut, you think you should get fired?

I agree that it's a great addition to the league, this year should be interesting.

Yes. It would suck (and won't happen because my contract year would be 2009 and I don't have my 2008, so I'm tanking two years not three) but I'd have to deal with it. If you open up the contract year to asterisks, you're opening it up to unnecessary issues. It should be cut and dry. 40 wins or playoffs, regardless of injuries. If not, you're fired.

I think the contract year really adds a good amount to the league. It definitely makes it more realistic and sets a benchmark for GMs. If a certain GM can't cut it, then that will be proven with the contract year. However, I think the contract year can also kill the league in some circumstances if someone decides to absolutely mortgage their future in order to stick around and then they miss the playoffs and screw the next set of GMs for a long time.

I love the contract year, its great for the league. No complaints on it. Makes guys compete. Lots of teams would still be tanking like the clippers, bulls, and cavs but now all have to makes moves to survive, gotta love that.

I like it. Think it makes it much more realistic. A GM that doesnt win at least 40 games or make postseason for 4 yrs in NBA likely isnt gonna be around for yr 5.

Realistically there is no reason to even ever get to the contract year.

I love the contract year. If you set yourself up, think where you want to be in 2 years, 3 years, and 4 years you should never be in jepordy. Things take planning like clearing cap, how do you want to use your cap, who is going to be a FA in 1,2,3, and 4 years who are my targets. You have to plan and sometimes GMs just don't and those are the ones who suffer the consequences.
If you get fired you can always come back. NBA teams rotate coaches all the time.

also if James was fired this year and so was either Play or Galo. I'd immediately re-hire James to take over Chicago or LAC
