Josh Howard also said that, even after the odd timing of his infamous radio appearance hours before Game 3 of the first-round playoff series against the New Orleans Hornets, being traded never crossed his mind. With Howard smoothing things over, the Mavs' brass doesn't appear ready to let him go, either. "Josh doesn't have to smooth things over," Mavs owner Mark Cuban said. "He has to work his ass off to better his game and be ready to play. He realizes what he did wrong, and he knows what he has to do to put it all behind him, which is come to [training] camp as a much better basketball player in every sense of the word." -- Hes staying.

Bernie Bickerstaff interviewed for a position on Vinny Del Negro's first coaching staff Monday. Bickerstaff followed interviews with former head coaches Bob Hill, Paul Westphal and Del Harris that took place last week. But with draft preparation dominating this week, it's unlikely the Bulls will announce anything official on assistant coaches this week.

That is it for todays Rumer Mill on ESPN...The one from yesterday that was interesting is :
Sonics Deal Intrigues Heat The Heat appears to have its focus on Thursday's NBA Draft, with the latest twist, according to a source familiar with the situation, being Heat intrigue with a deal with Seattle. In that permutation, the Heat would send its No. 2 selection plus center Mark Blount to the Sonics in exchange for the No. 4 selection and center Chris Wilcox. The Heat then would be in position to select Southern Cal guard O.J. Mayo or Arizona guard Jerryd Bayless at No. 4. --

The Magic said Monday they had no plans to make a draft-night move involving J.J Redick or to deal him this summer, even though the popular but frustrated shooting guard wouldn't mind leaving Orlando in hopes of finding playing time. "We're not looking to move J.J. If it doesn't make sense, we're not going to move him just to move him," GM Otis Smith said. "He wants to play, and rightfully so. He thinks he hasn't been given the opportunity. "You can say, 'I want to go somewhere else to play.' It's easy to say that but harder to do it. We're not giving him away. You're pretty much here. We do value J.J. I think he can play in this league." -- He sucks.

Last week, Warriors vice president Chris Mullin said he had again inquired about moving around in the draft and continues to explore all trade scenarios. Mullin believes his team is one good player away from being a legitimate playoff force, and with the draft unlikely to provide such a piece, he has two realistic avenues to secure one - trade and free agency. The first comes with an expiration date of sorts: A $10 million trade exception created from the Jason Richardson deal must be used before June 30.
"It could enhance something," said Mullin, who wouldn't commit to using the exception. "The significant part is if it's attached to a difference-maker, someone who makes us considerably better ... to be a team that can get to the conference finals." --
