1. Kirk Hinrich should have gone second in the 2003 BBS draft.
Maniac- - Fact. Hinrich has progressed as much as anyone in this draft, won the Rookie of the Year award, and is an excellent young player at a highly coveted position. He already is one of the better PG's in the league and I'm sure he still has some room to improve. The aging Jason Kidd just went for a boatload which shows the scarcity at the PG position. LeBron has the potential to be the best player in the league, so he certainly should still have gone first. However, Bosh has been unimpressive. Carmelo has had success, but his game has not evolved quite like that of Kirk's.
Scott- Fact-In hindsight thus far, Hinrich has developed into an excellent PG. With his opening sim this year, he's averaging nearly 8 assists to only 1 turnover while shooting around 47% from 3-point land. However, Melo still has A potential and could easily turn the argument back to his side with just a bit more improvement. For now though, it is a fact.
Ebener- Fact. I say this because of the lack of star PG's in the league, I think he will be elite in BBS. In his rookie campaign which included the ROY, he shot some of the sickest %'s for a rookie that I've ever seen. Combine that with 2 good TC's, 8 apg in his 1st season, and only 7 turnovers in his first 7 games of 2004, I'll take tha
2. With Mutombo retired, the Heat should rebuild around VC.
Maniac- - Fact. I think having an inside force like Mutombo really gave this team the balance necessary to be considered a contender. They just made a solid trade to acquire some solid inside depth, but I just don't think it'll be enough. They have a lot of solid pieces in Allen, Miller, and LaFrentz that could still be dealt for a nice bunch of pieces. VC is already 27, so I would even consider moving him. I just don't think they'll be able to acquire the guns needed to compete with Orlando and New York.
Scott- Tough question here, but I'd say fiction. With VC, Allen, and Miller they are only one more big man away from being a good team still (Lafrentz still is there at PF). No reason to panic yet, but if a search for a solid big (who can block shots) doesn't show anything, it may be best to reload.
Ebener-Fiction. I'm rather upset about this question. How could a team with Carter and Allen hitting their prime even enter that option into their head? I'm pissed about our postseason choke last season and I expect to get back to the finals.
3. The Rockets have the brightest future in BBS.
Maniac- - Fiction. Had they kept Livi I would have probably said fact. I'm still not overly impressed with Chris Bosh and they traded away a potentially excellent PG (and we've already emphasized how tough a PG can be to find). Prince is solid, but he's already been through various TC's with minimal improvement. Big Ben is 30, and despite getting a mid season progression last year, his future is limited. They will be a formidable team, but I like what the Clippers have going. Josh Smith/Darko/Biedrins has the potential to be the best front court in the league, and they could have a couple more solid picks this year.
Scott- Fiction (for right now). I think that Dallas has a brighter future based solely on the fact that they have young studs at various positions rather than just in the frontcourt. If Houston can find a way to move Z for some young help outside, they will indeed have the brightest future.
Ebener-Fiction. They might have with Livy but after moving him Dallas is the easy choice. A trio of Amare/LeBron/Chandler is scary for the league already, and in 4 years I don't even wanna imagine what that will be like. They have Nash, who's 30, and if he can still be a stud in 4 years, then oh boy.
4. The Sixers have a playoff team.
Maniac- - Fiction. As stands, we won't have the guns to make the playoffs. I could probably add a few solid pieces around Kirk/Gilbert and easily make the playoffs, but I'm going to try the patient route. I have one year left to rebuild this franchise properly, so I may as well make use of it. Outlaw didn't work out so I'm going to likely test my luck in the draft once again. If the right offer comes along that would allow me to win I'd certainly listen, but as of now I'm staying the course.
Scott- Fiction-they still need some good defense and scoring inside before they can take to being a playoff contender. However, with the Hinrich/Arenas scoring duo they shouldn't be too far away.
Ebener-Fiction. With their current roster they will not, they literally have nothing around Arenas and Kirk. However, if they want to they know they could easily make the playoffs by making a few minor trades, but I sense Maniac wants another lotto pick.
5. Josh Smith won't be an All-Star
Maniac- - Fiction. This year? Hell no. However, I'll take a guess and say that he will be an All-Star at some point. His first sim was hardly impressive, but he is only 18 years old. Assuming he has excellent potential, his all-around game will be tremendous. LeBron is the only truly dominant SF in the West, so as it stands I see a spot being open each year. I have to think a guy with this much promise could ultimately sneak into the All-Star Game.
Scott- Fiction. Smith is already looking to be a good defender and rebounder. With either some luck in TC or some wisely used RCs, he could easily be a perennial All-Star. I love the prospects of Smith in this league.
Ebener-Fact. I don't think he will be even close, he's a great prospect but their are many better SF's than Smith at this time in the West.
6. There is no chance a team from the West takes the title this year.
Maniac- - Fiction. I think the title, barring injury, will belong to either the Magic or the Knicks this season. I'm certainly not going out on a limb with that one, but they just both look damn impressive. However, the Nuggets are a tough team. Their assist to turnover ratio in the first sim is phenomenal, and they have a good big man to run with Duncan/Shaq. The Sonics had a great season last year and that could very well carry over to this season. They can fill the baskets. I think the title belongs to the East this year, but I wouldn't say it's a lock.
Scott- While I agree that a lot of the good teams are indeed from the East, this question is easily fiction. Anything can happen in a 7-game series with the East vs. West in the finals. Denver has a great shot with their guard play and JO inside.
Ebener-Fact. It's going to be one of the four teams from the Atlantic, the Magic, Nets, Heat, or Knicks. I really don't think any other team is on the same talent level. The Sonics are good in the regular season but I've just always thought they've been overrated. Mavs are going to be big-time title contenders very soon, but not just yet!
7. Spence should refrain from releasing post counts and add a rule that any team below 50 posts enters their contract year, in which they must win 40 game and post more than 50 times.
Maniac- - Fiction. I just think that anyone under 50 posts, barring a special circumstance, should be fired.
Scott- Fiction. While I was one of the guys to post fewer than 50 times, I don't believe that I was inactive at all in the league. I am on the boards all the time and am constantly talking about the league with guys like Reilly, Dave, and Jordan. I just don't make a lot of the random posts. With that said though, I am going to try and be more active in posting and come up with 100-200 posts. Back to the question, I feel like if the activity isn't down then that GM shouldn't be penalized for being a "quiet" poster.
Ebener-Fact. I like this idea, it's simple and 50 posts is literally nothing. That can be done in 2 nights! Hah. However, I'm sure someone could run this for Spencer as he is busy as hell with this league.
7. JAH should be forced to trade KG.
Maniac- - Fiction. He should just be forced to be more active. It won't take much to make any team surrounding KG a winner. Jah appears to have lucked out by signing Beasley, a solid piece, but he just needs to make some moves.
Scott- Fiction. KG is obviously an absolute stud and maybe the best player in the league. However, if JAH doesn't do much around him it will only hurt the team. How is KG supposed to win with no other talent around him? JAH will be forced to make some sort of a big move sooner or later, but I doubt that it includes KG.
Ebener-Fiction. It's not going to happen anyways, Jah is Jah, everyone knows that by now. KG will be a Wizard for life, book it
8. The Contract Year will lead to the firing of at least one GM within the next two seasons (specify who!)
Maniac- Fiction. The Bulls appear to be in the most danger, but I think Play is capable of turning that team into a winner if he starts to pay more attention to the league. I think my squad could make the playoffs this year if I really wanted. I'll stick with the Bulls as the most likely candidate, but I have faith in Play.
Scott-Fact. Galo will be entering his contract year next season if he can't get 40 wins this season. If he does indeed enter it, I could see him failing to reach 40 wins. With guys like Darko, Brad Miller, and Josh Smith he will need some good development to be a contender for 40 wins.
Ebener-Fiction, but just barely. The only team that is in severe danger is the Chicago Bulls. I think Play's gayness level will propel the Bulls to a 42 win season next year, as he will make moves after he tanks this year to get appopriate talent to remain in the league.
9. The Hornets have the worst future of any BBS team.
Maniac- Fiction. The Grizzlies are managed by the equivalent of a rock, so I'd have to say they'll never make it far. I'd rather have a blind monkey with no hands running my team than Martinez.
Scott- Fact. Marion, Redd, and Boykins is about all they have, and Redd still has a long way to develop to turn into a good player. Marion is a good player, but not nearly enough to be the lone good player to carry a team. Tiger's gonna have to find a way to build this team back up after trading 5 picks (3 of his own) to get Zo who up and retired on him after just one season
Ebener-Fiction. Marion and Redd are not even in their prime yet, and that's a nice duo. I'm not really sure who has a worse future and Aaron is yelling at me to turn this in now so I guess I can't give you a team with a worse future!
Maniac- - Fact. Hinrich has progressed as much as anyone in this draft, won the Rookie of the Year award, and is an excellent young player at a highly coveted position.
