Hi folks
Welcome to the roundtable! I'm your host, Harry Blart, Paul's Brother. Saul Blart couldn't make it, but cousin Gil is in the kitchen making a baloney sandwich. When I'm not busy banging hot slut MILF babe with huge knockers, I make roundtables.
Three seasons ago, the Jazz were a 60 win team loaded with promising youth. Now, they hardly scratch out 40 and have two terrible contracts weighing down the franchise. What went wrong? Is it all Andrew's fault, or did TCs do him in? What would you have done differently?
AAR: Chiriaev will handcuff that franchise for the foreseeable future. His contract can only be traded when a CY GM gets incredibly desperate.
The only player that can save this franchise is Taven Whitehorse, who looks like he will be a really good player.
Everyone on the team is getting older and until they can ditch Ivan, they will be in disarray.
JAY: I'd be lying if I said I paid attentiont to that team, they aren't in my conference. I'm pretty sure he backed out of a trade with me, so yeah it's Andrew's fault.
If you want the real reason though, it's Ivan Chiriaev. Not knowing how to offer an older gay a max contract is unacceptable. Chiriaev is paid. PAID. And it's hilarious.
OUTLAWZ: I think Andrew plays the game scared. I had to wow him for rose which was understandable but he held on to his youth way to long. He could have had beasley. If he would have tried to understand free agency better he could've gave guys better deals without going that far like he did with Ivan. After he realizes he didnt cash in on something he pulls the switch too early on other deals or just makes a bad deal. i think it is his fault but he's still learning. Guys forget this is a game and play the game like they're about to lose their house. Have some balls
NANZ: I think it was his fault 100%. He stuck by his players way too long when he should have dealt them for more established stars in the league (Beasley). At the same time i can understand why he didn't pull the trigger on these trades. He saw a team that had a bunch of talent with young players that looked to be nothing but stars in the making. He looked at team and thought that he could win with the guys he had for a long time but as we know not every player pans out and busts do happen. Next thing you know he is filled with players who were good but not great enough to get them over the top. After that he panicked and tried to get those players by getting guys like Ivan and Emeka and giving them awesome, sweet contracts
MANIAC: Oh, of course Andrew is to blame. The GM is generally responsible for the downfall of a franchise. He did a good job building that team of a few seasons ago and then did an equally solid job of fucking it all up. I think a few people tried to warn him not to sit on his youth, but he did and then it backfired with a few mediocre TC’s. His attempt to compete was not all that well thought out either. He tried to create an odd mesh of old veterans and youth. Now, he’s stuck with Okafor and of course the infamously awful contract of Ivan Chiriaev. Those contracts will hold his team back for a few seasons and have already forced him to trade some other youth. TC’s suck, but I think we’ve all dealt with a shitty TC or two.
Andy's back and wants a team. When he left, he was one of the most valued members of BBS. But he left abruptly without giving reason and was still hanging out on other similar online forums. Is it anyone's business to blame him for leaving BBS in the manner he did, or should he be welcomed back with no questions asked? Does he have to prove himself?
AAR: Andy doesn't need to prove himself, but it was pretty weak leaving the way he did. I've always liked Andy, he's a great GM and a fun guy to have around.
However, everyone was worried sick about the guy and thought he could have died! While that was probably funny to him, it felt like we had all lost a comrade in the sim league community and yes, I feel incredibly nerdy writing this.
Andy deserves a place in this league with the next availability.
JAY: Andy is cool, but I've never been on the Andy "bandwagon". He's just a GM I've been in leagues with. He's a good GM, so sure hire him. He did end the only league I had Jordan in, so fuck him.
OUTLAWZ: I dont think he has to prove anything. Im sure we would all like to know what happened and maybe one day he'll explain it to us but i'm sure it must have been important if he just upped and left. We don't know what people deal with in their personal lives. i would welcome him back with open arms. Life>Sims
NANZ: I think we all know what he is capable of doing and that is putting together great teams so there will always be a spot for that type of GM in this league especially with how the waiting list has been lately. When he left it was the weirdest thing i have ever been a part of in my last 10 years doing sims. Actually i remember sitting in dans pool with mark aaron and others hoping that he was ok and that he was doing fine because we were all actually very worried about him. Does he owe us an explanation? Of course not. It is completely up to him although it would be nice
MANIAC: Considering the shit-storm of mediocrity that has struck BBS over the past few seasons I’d have to say Andy should be welcomed back with no complaints. Do we really want any more JB’s in this league? He pretty much exemplified every wrong aspect that could be found in a person. Captain was a nice guy but a mediocre GM. Don sucked. Fact is, Andy is a not only an active guy but has proven himself in the past as a GM. Some people choose to deal with personal shit in their own way. Now, I think he should’ve given some explanation at the time of leaving, but he didn’t. Shit happens. I believe in second chances, damnit.
Chris Martinez took over a great situation in Dallas, and has seemingly been in cruise control mode ever since. He's had his share of good draft picks but has never gone for the kill or even cashed in on his youth. Do you credit him for the job he has done, or is being in the Contract Year after inheriting a great situation a sign that he isn't doing a great job with his roster?
AAR: I've always viewed Martinez as a middle-of-the-road GM, but he helps activity in the league.
I actually really like what he's done with his team to this point. He's assembled enough talent to easily win 40 games this year, then he can ditch Roy and Barnes (possibly even at the trade deadline) and proceed to keep adding incredible youth.
I think that this has been his strategy all along and that's why I don't think that he can be blamed for putting his team into cruise control.
JAY: Martinez hasn't been annoying lately (at least in my opinion), so that means he's doing something right. That's really the only way I judge him, whether or not he is annoying. So good job.
OUTLAWZ: Most of it was Spencers doing but he's done a nice job collecting more pieces but i dont just dont think he can negotiate or work out deals. I think now is when we'll see if he'll ever really be a good GM. He seems to go after the right players but lookin at some of the offers he posts on the boards i dont think he can get it done. He might squeak by with what he has but if it was me i would definitely give up what i have to in order to get great players. He lacks the killer instinct and his personality makes it kinda hard to deal with him anyways
NANZ: think it is a little bit of both. He had a great situation coming in because of all the picks Spencer had gotten but at the same time he was able to get talent like Barnes and others. He also got some nice young players from the draft which look very good. Overall i think he got a great situation coming in and he has been on "cruise control" but at least he hasn't recked the ship! LOLZ get it like cruise control? like a ship that sailing but you don't wanna steer it anymore because you are tired? so you put that shit on cruise so you can go look at the view.
MANIAC: Hahahaha. Marty is an all-star.
Grade the offseasons of the following teams:
Seattle Supersonics:
AAR: C-
Realistically, I could have had Rose and either LeBron or Wall, but decided to go with youth, most of whom screwed me in TC.
JAY: A (I love Sembene)
OUTLAWZ: A+ - when you pick up the best player in the league you have to get an A. He's picked up a lot of nice picks and has some nice pieces. If he can use that to his advantage seattle will be hard to deal with for many years
NANZ: B. Kinda hard to give them something lower than a B because they got one of the greatest players ever to play in the BBS but losing players like fisher bron favors is very tough. They've got very nice player around Rose and some nice young talent but i don't think its enough. At the same time his team last year never seemed to click so maybe this was the best for them.
MANIAC: Aar had a really strange offseason. It confused the shit out of my from time to time but ended up looking solid. I think any team with Rose will still be solid but I don’t think they are a title contender. Yes, I know I predicted them to win the West, but I’ve changed my mind already. Fuck off. They are a less talented version of the Knicks last season. Trading for Hillman was a bit strange and I’m not a huge fan of Patrick Patterson. Still, he has Derrick Rose on his team. Final Grade: B-
New York Knicks
AAR: C+
I don't think their trade made them all that much better than they were. They have solid talent, but it won't win them any championships. They need to make more moves.
JAY: B
OUTLAWZ: B…Moving Bynum+Rose takes the Knicks out of contention but picking up favors means they still have a franchise player to make em relevant. Will be interesting to see what direction they continue to head in
NANZ: B They just got a shitload of picks to go with Favors and Jennings. Tough to see them lose in the finals but it was time for a change. If they can trade off those picks maybe they can be at the top again this year but as the east stands right now i don't think they have enough to be the top seed once again.
MANIAC: The Knicks are going through one of those patented Outlawz ‘retooling’ periods. Hopefully it’ll take them out of contention in the East for a season, haha. He has a glut of picks, as usual, combined with a stud talent in Favors. I think he was getting bored. I’d expect the Knicks to be back in contention by next season. Outlawz will rape a few GM’s that fall for his crazy voodoo tricks and somehow will run a line-up of Nathaniel Davidson/Lance Stephenson/LaQuinton Ross/Derrick Favors/Dwight Howard. Final Grade: B+
Memphis Grizzlies-
AAR: B-
They improve a bit, but not by much. They should still be a top-2 seed in the West without a problem.
JAY: A-
OUTLAWZ: B
I think they got weaker but Lance is a stud. They are the champs until they are knocked out
NANZ: A- Only because they won it all last year! They have 3 superstars who are just dirty. The question is if they have enough depth to go around these guys but they look damn nasty.
MANIAC: I don’t think his team is as good now as they were last season. They have a great trio but the rest of the team is just simply lacking. I think that will hurt him down the stretch, especially with the Lakers now having a disgusting line-up. I also am of the opinion that Greg Oden isn’t quite the player that he once was (although Skillz seems to think he’s a top-5 guy). Plus, karma will bite Skillz in the ass for being a douchebag. I’m expecting a 12 win season from the Grizzlies. Final Grade: E
Orlando Magic-
AAR: A
They improve their team ten-fold and made some gutsy moves.
JAY: B
OUTLAWZ: A
Very pro active offseason for the magic.. i think they are the team to beat in the east but we'll see
NANZ: A+ to A-/B+ They went from having a ridiculous lineup with bron and dwight but because of cap reasons they had to trade Bron. Their team looks damn good right now with no glaring weakness at any position and with a defensive stud in Edwards coming off the bench. They had a great off season if you look at their team from last year to today but its hard to forget when they had Dwight and Lebron paired off.
MANIAC: They had a very cyclical offseason. I loved what they were doing early but then it just started to get ugly. I thought the Stephenson trade was phenomenal value. It just started to get ugly though. Now, they have a solid team but it just doesn’t seem very special at all. They are certainly a playoff team and will be dangerous but they were more impressive early in the offseason. We shall see. Nocedal is a monster and thus he helps their grade. Final Grade: B
Golden State Warriors
AAR: D
Got very lucky in TC. The Deng trade looked great for them, but when he's 37 and making 19 mil. it won't.
JAY: B
OUTLAWZ: B
They did what they had to do and they'll be a playoff team but they wont win anything
NANZ: B/B+ Nothing special from pig but he got it done. He made moves to put together a team that will win 40 this year. Although he made some questionable signings everything worked out fine and i like the team he has put together.
MANIAC: Hooch is crazyyyy. Sorry, watching Scrubs. Warriors have made an effort to create a respectable, solid team that’ll defeat the contract year. Sounds exciting. I think Pig will succeed but his team isn’t very good. Still, coming up with a roster capable of winning 40 games is apparently quite a tall task. He made some questionable FA signings but TC bailed him out a bit. Good for him. Final Grade: 31 (reminds me of Pig for some reason??)
Who wins BBS this year and why?
AAR: The Orlando Magic. Nocedal is an incredible PG and the team is so well-rounded with great talents that I don't see them losing. They have so many great pieces and this is really the only year they can make it happen before they have to count their pennies to avoid the HC.
JAY: I have no idea, but I can tell you who won't....
Boston, New Jersey, New York, Philadelphia, Washington, Atlanta, New Orleans, Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, Indiana, Milwaukee, Dallas, Denver, Houston. Minnesota, San Antonio, Utah, Golden State, Los Angeles Clippers/Spark, Phoenix, Portland, Las Vegas
OUTLAWZ: Lakers- after picking up bynum i think they just have too many pieces to not win it all
NANZ: I think we have a very good shot. I like the balance that we have from pg to c and i love the depth that we are able to bring, especially Bates. We have the right pieces together but it will be very tough because there are some great teams out there like the Grizz and their big3. The Magic. The suns have also improved and Pacers. And all the others that are always there like the heat 6ers healthy nets, etc. Should be tough.
MANIAC: I think I can take it this season. The Knicks have retooled enough that I don’t think they’ll be a huge contender (of course, Outlawz could change this by the trade deadline). My team was really good last season and pretty much hasn’t changed. Blair is always dangerous enough to lead us in a playoff series and I think he will finally get himself a ring this season. Plus, I’d rather myself win it than anyone else.
Take your pick...please judge TALENT only:
DeJuan Blair or Derrick Rose:
AAR: Rose
JAY: Blair…Rose is amazing, but there are a billion good PGs in this league.
OUTLAWZ: Rose - PG is the most important position in FBB
NANZ: If we have to go with talent only i have to go with Blair. He is a beast that does everything and anything. Rose is the more valuable because of his position but i think Blair talent wise is slightly better.
MANIAC: I’ll stick with Blair. He has been the most statistically dominant player in BBS over the past three seasons. The man is an absolute monster in the paint. He generally gets to the line more than any other player in the league which just emphasizes his manliness. He just does everything right. Rose gets the MVP simply because of the FBB fixation regarding PG’s.
Corey Fisher or Matias Nocedal
AAR: Fisher
JAY: Fisher…not a big fan of Nocedal
OUTLAWZ: I think they are both good but a little overrated. I would probably take Nocedal because hes a pg
NANZ: Talent wise, well hard to not pick Fisher. He has crazy ratings and he can score play d, grab rebounds and get steals. He is not talked about much but he is firty. Matias has a sick assist to TO ratio and is also a great point guard but talent wise i think fisher has it.
MANIAC: Give me Nocedal on this one. I like Fisher, but he’s undersized and a bit inconsistent. Nocedal has exploded the past few seasons and has become one of my favorite players in the league. I think he is a great addition to any team and should make the Magic really dangerous this season. His numbers are just undeniable.
Delvon Roe or Tyler Hansbrough
AAR: Roe
JAY: Hansbrough…Someone should show these stats to Hansbrough and say "This is what you have no shot in hell of being. Hope you enjoyed UNC!"
OUTLAWZ: I go with Roe here. I love his defense at the wings. Very unique player
NANZ: Roe. He socres 20 a game and does it all. rebounds gets steals and blocks, he does it all.
MANIAC: I would probably rather have Roe. His defensive presence makes him one of the more unique players in the league. Not many SF’s put up over 2 blocks a game with any consistency. Roe has proven his ability to score some and seems to always be on a winning team
Hahn Owens or Karron Johnson
AAR: Karron
JAY: Owens…Eat dick Karron.
OUTLAWZ: Hahn. I think karron looks pretty but sucks
NANZ: Owens. He is a lights out shooter and he is putting up points like no other. Good defender and gets steals he is a beast.
MANIAC: Probably would go with Owens. Johnson looks so pretty but just about sucks. Owens had a really big season and seems to be one of the more dynamic scoring threats in the entire league. I think he can do great things in the future. Johnson just hasn’t put up the numbers to back up his pretty ratings yet. Plus, Jay doesn’t deserve to hear anything good.
Rodney Stuckey or Hasheem Thabeet
AAR: Thabeet
JAY: Stuckey
OUTLAWZ: I love stuckey so he gets my vote.. can rebound, defend, shoot... great complimentary player
NANZ: Thabeet. His block and defense says it all.
MANIAC: I would take Stuckey. I’ve tried a few times to pry him from Outlawz in the past but to no avail. I’ll never understand why he hasn’t been given one of those large one-year expiring deals that are so damn famous. He’s a beast and yet resigns for something similar with the Knicks every season. He is a very efficient player that has always been one hell of a ball-thief. He’s the perfect role-player.
Ebener or Mark
AAR: Mark
JAY: Ebener
OUTLAWZ: Right now Ebener…Mark has tailed off.
NANZ: Ebener was always like, oh man my team is so young! Blah blah. He did put together a great young team and did beat me in the finals but Mark is my best good friend. Injuries have played a huge part lately and even when he had pierce and the others. I'm going with Mark.
MANIAC: Eboner simply because of the crazy conversations I sometimes have with him. Both are good guys and solid GM’s. Does the picking them based simply off of talent still apply here? If so, uhhh, I’d probably go with Eboner. He has had some more recent success and that’s what this world is all about!
Jordan or Skillz
AAR: Skillz
JAY: Skillz
OUTLAWZ: CJ has a better overall track record
NANZ: This is kinda tough. Skillz before this year would always trade his team away but this year he stuck with what he had and was able to pull it off. I think its pretty close but Jordan is one of the top GMs with the most wins int eh league so it goes to him.
MANIAC: I think Jordan is the better GM. Skillz still trades around a lot and has already built a team that I don’t think will be quite as good as his last. Jordan is having a rough time rebuilding but had an amazing run of success.
Ducky or Blue
AAR: Ducky
JAY: PUSH
OUTLAWZ: ducky because hes made it to the finals back to back
NANZ: BLUE YOU DA MAN. He made the best sig ever and that is a talent not many have.
MANIAC: Blue. Ducky sucks. Reservation Road is an awful movie. Bad work, Joaquin Phoenix. How the hell does spell check not pick up Joaquin?
Pig or DJ
AAR: Pig
JAY: DJ
OUTLAWZ: Pig because he plays the game like a man instead of sitting on lotto picks
NANZ: Pig. He is all like lets play poker and DJ and I are never able to make a trade. EVER
MANIAC: Pig. DJ has done nothing in this league. He always seems to have a wealth of talent that simply wastes away. Seriously, I wouldn’t even know who any of his players are and yet they probably have amazing ratings. I’m starting to get sleepy as well.
Assemble the best starting lineup of players making under 10 mil a year that aren't on rookie contracts.
AAR: John Manning PG 27 5'11'' 205 C- B+ A+ B- C C
Dexter Strickland SG 27 6'3'' 192 B+ B+ C+ B+ C C
DeMarcus Cousins SF 27 6'9'' 258 A- C- C A- B+ D
Dennis Dunagan PF 28 6'9'' 229 A- C- D A- A- B
Manchu Chau C 24 7'3'' 252 A- C C B+ C+ C
Inside offense - sick team! Still wouldn't win a championship tho.
JAY: C - Dennis Dunigan
PF - Serge Ibaka
SF - Tyrus Thomas
SG - Rudy Gay
PG - Rodrique Beaubois
I got tired.
OUTLAWZ: Fuck that im too tired
NANZ: Assemble the best starting lineup of players making under 10 mil a year that aren't on rookie contracts.
C: Horford
PF: Chao
SF: Cousins
SG: He is almost at 10 mil so fuck it ROSS
PG: Westbrook
MANIAC: Fuck. This sounds hard. I made one line-up already not reading the entire sentence. Did all guys on rookie contracts. Fuck.
PG: Rodrigue Beaubois - Very efficient, solid defensive minded PG.
SG: Rodney Stuckey - Defense wins out yet again here. Plus, he's a proven virtual winner. Has a big virtual heart.
SF: Rudy Gay - Late career revival. Second Piston to make the team!
PF: Serge Ibaka - I'm sold on this guy. He's a beast.
C: DeMarcus Cousins - He has to play slightly out of position on my team but it's all good. He'd probably be my #1 option.
And, of course, call someone out in 50 insulting words or less.
AAR: Atlanta Hawks, lose you dumb motherfuckers. Keep losing. PLEASE! I don't know who your GM is, but whatever, just keep losing!
JAY: Galo, either accept the trade or don't. It's that simple.
OUTLAWZ: I'm just going to call out all the gm's who play the game like bitches. Please take a look at guys like pig, habes, myself, etc who go after it and if they fail then fuck it! Fuck Skillz though. Dude did what before he moved out west? yeah, thats right.. NOTHING!!! Get 1 ring and thinks hes the shit. What a fag.
NANZ: Umm well that shit that i just did was fucking horrible! Having to look for guys that make under 10 mil and not on their rookie contracts sucked my balls! And grandma, jesus, if your gonna walk around like that at least shave that ass. Damn.
MANIAC: Apparently Allstar has used his connections (David Stern, Michael Jordan, and Christ) to contact HeavyReign (maker of FBB). He’s going to get an idiot-proofed version of FBB shipped to his home (before anyone else can get it, of course).
