Crab = c1 1/2 Crab = c2 1/2 c1 = ? c2 = ? c1 + c2 = 1.5 lbs c1 = c2 c1 = .75 c2 = .75 1/2 c1 = .375 Half the whole crab = .375lbs Whole of the half crab = .75lbs supposing a crab and a half weighs a pound and a half would suggest a crab weighs one pound and likewise, half the crab weighs half a pound. The next criteria validates this assumption when it says the half crab weighs half as much as the whole crab. The "solution" does not satisfy this criteria. At the end, the brain teaser asks for the total weight of "half the whole crab" (half a pound) and "the whole of the half crab" (a pound). This gives us 1.5 pounds. |

no you're an idiot. First of all, this brain teaser was not even executed properly. The language is vague and the so-called "solution" is counterintuitive. Of course 0.6 and 0.9 equal 1.5, but NOTHING in the problem suggests the crabs would be these weights as opposed to any other weights (such as, say, 1 and 0.5). The PROPER SOLUTION to this problem should be 1.5 pounds.
