This article was the most recent cover story in SLAM! Magazine
Dear Commissioner Martin,
By now, you may have heard of me. I have been on three SLAM! covers, one SI cover and the cover of USA Today and am only a sophomore in high school.
I have led Eastlake High School to a California state championship and vow to do it again this year. I am currently averaging 37.8 ppg, 14.2 rpg and 7.5 apg in under 30 minutes per game against high level in-state competition.
I stand 6'8" and growing, weigh 215 pounds and gaining and have already had games air on ESPN.
I do not intend to be a great basketball player, I intend to master the sport.
Since I was 8, I have woken up at 5 AM every day to hone my craft and learn new techniques and strategies. You have heard my coaches tell the media that they have never seen anyone work as hard and that's something that I pride myself on.
My dad quit being a mechanic when I was 10 so that he could earn his sports law degree and open Pearson Sports and Entertainment. He recently signed his first client, LaSav Cunningham, who will be a high selection in next year's draft.
I want to turn the name Pearson into more than just a name, but a brand, a lifestyle and a name of honor.
Enough about me, because I expect that you've read the articles. I have something to ask of you Commissioner Martin. I am requesting that you banish the one-year of college rule and age limit from the BBS rulebook. If I go to college, I will win a national championship in my freshman year and if I go overseas, I will win a Euroleague championship. Among other teams, CSKA Moscow has already called us regarding their interest.
I feel that I am already good enough to be in the BBS, so in two years, there will not be a question that I will be the consensus top pick in the draft.
Please consider my request and I hope to hear back from you soon.
Yours Truly,
DellJuan Pearson
Pearson is the top high school prospect as a sophomore. He has yet to commit to a school in hopes that he can enter the BBS out of high school
