2020 Draft Notes
The 2020 Draft is very deep, but not especially top heavy. While there are some very good prospects near the top, none is head and shoulders above the rest. Here is a position by position look at the 2020 BBS Draft…
Centers…
Brody Masterson C 7'0'' 285 20 B- D+ D+ B- B+ A… Masterson is a big time talent that could go 1 overall. A solid defender and scorer who is a very good rebounder, Masterson should start as a rookie.
Sam Hyde C 7'1'' 282 22 B D- D- B B A… Hyde is slightly behind Masterson on most draft boards, but might be just as productive in BBS. A intimidating inside scorer, Hyde has the ability to also start as a rookie.
Araki Chiba C 7'2'' 230 20 C D B- A- C+ B… Mostly known as a defender, Chiba may go higher then expected because of his ability to block shots. Doesn’t have the upside or offensive ability of some of the other top tier centers in this draft.
Trey Benson C 6'11'' 263 22 B C C C+ B- A… A step below the top tier centers because of his lack of defense, Benson is a solid inside scorer that could develop into a starter with some smart RCs.
Thomas Foster C 6'10'' 273 23 B+ D+ D+ B+ C+ C… Foster is a polished college player with limited athleticism and upside. A rotation player right away, he should be a great late Round 1 selection.
Chief Kickingstallionsims C 7'1'' 270 22 C+ D+ D B+ C B… Similar to Chiba defensively but with more size. The Chief should be a very good backup center in BBS.
George Douglas C 6'11'' 241 21 C+ C- C- B+ C+ B… Douglas is a small school center who has been spectacular in private workouts but has rarely played top tier talent. His transition to the BBS should be interesting to say the least.
Sammy Carter C 6'11'' 250 20 C+ C+ D C A B… An amazing rebounder who has some serious issues on and off the court. Most importantly is his lack of desire to play defense. Should be a 2nd Rounder.
Power Forwards…
Diego Alvarez PF 6'10'' 225 21 C+ B+ B C C+ A… Easily one of the top 3 prospects in the draft but his lack of defense could push him down into the 4-8 range. An amazing offensive player for his size, Alvarez won’t be able to defend enough to play 5 or 3.
Eric Stoner PF 6'11'' 245 24 A- C C C+ C+ B… Stoner is a big time scorer. Stoner reminds many of BBS’er Zack Swanson. Stoner has a very good inside and mid range game and is a decent enough rebounder and defender. Probably a career 6th man, but still a solid selection late lotto or mid 1st Round.
Reggie Yates PF 6'10'' 250 22 B B- B- B B C… Yates is a very intriguing player with amazing skills. He fashions his game after Chris Webber and Derrick Coleman. A multi talented big man that can do it all. Unfortunately he also has some serious motivational issues.
Antonio Thomas PF 6'11'' 244 21 B C C C+ C+ B… Thomas is a nice end of Round 1 selection that in any other draft would go mid Round 1. Good solid role player that could eventually start.
Trey Carpenter PF 6'7'' 245 21 C C+ D+ B C+ B… Undersized role player that should be a solid bench guy for the next decade.
Chandler Malone PF 6'10'' 248 22 B- D+ D+ C B- B… Much like Thomas a guy that in any other draft would go in the middle of Round 1 or even late lotto. In this draft he might get pushed to the 2nd Round.
Small Forwards…
Kenny Irish SF 6'6'' 245 23 C+ C B- C+ C+ A… Similar to Karron Johnson of the BBS in playing style. Does a little of everything. Irish has the frame of a 4-3 defensive end which makes him quite intimidating on the basketball court. A top 8 pick.
Stephon McXavier SF 6'8'' 220 21 B+ C C B C+ B… A very solid inside scorer and defender. McXavier is a lotto pick that could start from Day 1.
Darius Hamilton SF 6'9'' 230 19 B C+ A- C- C- A… Amazing ball handling abilities make him look like a top 5 pick. His horrible defense drops him into late lotto territory.
Ado Ibrahimbeg SF 6'8'' 215 19 C+ B- C+ B- C+ A… A solid 2 way player that has slipped recently in most scouts eyes because of some knee issues. Ibrahimbeg actually didn’t pass a couple of team physicals and has been removed from their draft boards.
Brynn Marshall SF 6'8'' 225 22 C B B C+ B- A… A very talented player that plays more like a guard then a forward. Amazing passing and handling skills and a great rebounder. Marshall is a lock for the lotto.
Harrison Asamoah SF 6'9'' 210 19 C+ C C- B C A… Asamoah is a tireless defender who lacks the offensive skills of some of the other small forwards in the class. He could go as late as the end of Round 1.
Alan Maddux SF 6'9'' 229 20 B B+ C+ C C- B… A superb scorer that doesn’t seem to have the energy to defend. A tireless worker on the offensive end, Maddux fashions his game after Rip Hamilton. Cutting and moving. Maddux has great size for a wing player and should be a great 6th man in the BBS.
Shooting Guards…
Dmitri Maximov SG 6'7'' 190 20 C B+ C C+ C A… Big time shooter with big time upside. A true shooting guard who loves to shoot from midrange and from deep. Will never be a great defensive player, but could be an elite scorer.
Kenny Hardaway SG 6'7'' 190 19 C+ A- C+ C+ C B… A very good college player that always seems to get better. Limited physically, Hardaway has a knack for putting the ball in the basket.
Ryan Jackson SG 6'9'' 210 21 C+ C+ C+ A+ C+ B… Jackson is an unbelievable defender. He ranks as one of the best perimeter defenders in the BBS even before he enters the league. He is solid at everything else which means he could go in the top 8.
Jack Russell SG 6'2'' 215 20 B+ C+ D B- C- A… Great leaper who loves to score but doesn’t have a position. Short for a shooting guard, no passing skills for the point guard spot, Russell should make his way as a combo bench guard.
Anthony Swann SG 6'5'' 190 21 C+ B C- A- C- A… A solid defender with some upside. For whatever reason some scouts aren’t excited by him. Probably just because this draft is so strong.
Cameron Williams SG 6'4'' 202 22 C+ B C B C A… Much like Swann, some love him and some are lukewarm on him. Solid skills and athleticism. Most have him going in the middle of Round 1.
Nicholas Phoenix SG 6'4'' 200 20 B C C+ C+ C+ A… Some scouts think his future is at point guard, while others think he doesn’t have the ability to shoot well enough to be a starter. Probably an end of Round 1 selection.
Shawn Burnett SG 6'1'' 185 20 B- B- C+ B C- B… Solid shooting guard that could slip into Round 2.
Point Guards…
Jamal Jenkins PG 6'3'' 195 21 C+ B+ B+ C+ C- A… A very good offensive point guard who loves to pass but sometimes goes for the spectacular play instead of the sure thing. Could go 1 or 8.
LaDon Wachter PG 6'2'' 178 22 C B+ C+ B+ D+ A… Has a great two way game but may not be a point guard. A very good shooter and pesky defender, Wachter will be a safe top 5 pick.
Ben Gates PG 6'3'' 239 21 C- C- B+ B+ C+ A… An amazing physical specimen. Very strong and extremely fast. His lack of an offensive game could push him down, especially considering all the talent in this draft.
David Abernathy PG 6'2'' 175 22 C+ B B C+ D A… A very confident player that can rub some people the wrong way. His confidence may stop him from actually working on his game. A smart player that makes good decisions but his attitude flags along with the strength of this draft may drop him out o the lotto.
Abdul Denton PG 6'3'' 205 22 C+ B B- B- C A… Denton is a solid PG prospect with a well balanced game. For those that like your more typical point guards Denton could be the guy for them. Could go anywhere from 3-15.
Jonah Manuel PG 5'1'' 133 21 D B A- C+ D- A… Amazing quickness and ball handling mean he will be a very good backup, but his lack of scoring inside and his lack of strength should keep him from being a starter.
Tanner Wilke PG 6'1'' 184 22 C+ B B B- D- B… A solid college point guard that should be a nice backup in the BBS. Might slip into Round 2.
Tyson Ferry PG 6'0'' 201 22 C C C+ A- C- B… A very good defender who like Wilke should be a solid backup in the BBS. Also should slip into Round 2.
