Landry is Minnesota's biggest recruit since Kris Humphries. He tore his ACL in the 2nd game of Minnesota's season. The scouting report on Landry is somewhat vague because scouts are unsure of how he will adjust to the college level, let alone BBS. Landry has immense talent, indicated by the incredible amount of recognition he received at the high school levels and scholarship offers from elite programs such as Kansas, Memphis, UNC, and UCLA (Landry chose to stay close to home, he's from Minneapolis). He's very raw but wants to test the draft waters. Landry regained nearly full health and took part in the Orlando pre-draft camp. If he gets a first-round grade from scouts and talent evaluators, there's a good chance he'll enter the BBS draft.
Strengths: Freakishly good athlete. State champion long jumper. 42 inch vertical. Future dunk contest participant. Quick first step off the dribble. Uses strength and body control to finish at the basket. Not usual to see him take off from 10-12 feet when trying to finish. Bulky frame, very strong legs and upper body. Despite size, very elusive dribbler. Good weakside shotblocker. Very good on the boards for a guard.
Weakness: Lazy defender. Often called for reach-in fouls. Has his moments but his outside shot is lacking for the most parts. Range is very limited, only comfortable within 12 feet.
Landry would greatly benefit from proving himself and staying for his redshirt freshman year, but he's made some suprising moves in the past, such as commitment to Minnesota. If he comes out this year, chances are he's a late 1st, early 2nd round pick.
2021 UPDATE: As a redshirt freshman, Landry was the leading scorer on Minnesota (15.6 PPG). His athleticism contributed to alot of baskets close to the rim and a high FG%; Landry could get to the basket at will. He was incredible finisher, his acrobatic layups and dunks were a mainstay on Sportscenter. His athleticism and build reminds scouts of Gerald Henderson. Despite the early scouting report, Landry was one of Minnesota's best defenders. He was often called to guard the other teams best wing player because of his size and length (no homo). Landry still struggled to find his shot, and his range is very limited. He shot 2-for-21 from three point range and 60% from the line.
Landry looks to be a top 15 pick at the very least.
