A new season means that another contract year is upon us. This time, 3 GM's will attempt to avoid the axe and remain a part of the living, breathing organism that is BBS. Will they succeed? It's time for Yay or Nay!
Utah Jazz - Yay or Nay?
They have a point guard. They have a shooting guard. They even have a small forward. Unfortunately, they have two massive holes in their starting five. No starting center or power foward leaves this team in a bind at the start of this new season. Henry is a legit number one option that is capable of winning a handful of games on his own. Whitehorse is coming off of his best season as a BBSer. These two are a scary scoring combo that should provide plenty of highlights for the Jazz faithful. Bradley is still a good starting point guard who can score and dish the rock. But with no inside presence, this team will struggle defensively and on the glass, both of which are key ingredients to a winning formula. Without these things, this GM will ultimately meet his demise. Key additions will have to be made for this Nay! to stay.
Los Angeles Clippers - Yay or Nay?
Defense? Yay. Depth? Yay. Scoring? Yay. Rebounding? Nay. Three to one. The Yays! have it. This team made significant upgrades when they acquired Delvon Roe and Serge Ibaka during the off season. Ibaka is still a great shot blocker and arguably the best defensive player in the league. Roe, well, is the wing version of Ibaka, except Roe can score too. These two defensive studs combined with the perimeter scoing punch provided by guards Mike Conley and Brandon Jennings should be enough for this GM to avoid the axe. This team also possesses good depth, with players like Jamal Jenkins, Kenneth Donovan and Stephon McXavier coming off the bench. If they can avoid big injuries, this team should make the cut, with room to spare.
Atlanta Hawks - Yay or Nay?
A team led by a Shelley and a Braden. Usually, this would be an automatic Nay but these two fems have game. Cruise is a super scorer that could lead the league in this category a few times before his career is finished. Issel was a great leaper who has turned into a keeper. Two legit #1 scoring options gives this team hope. But as we've already discussed, you'll need more than scoring to win in this league. Leo Tate is good enough and Ivan Cann was an upgrade inside for this team, even if his production hasn't lived up to the hype. Cann two fems and a Leo get this team over the hump? This team plays in a competitive and improving division, so it isn't a slam dunk. At this point, they are on the bubble. One or two quality moves away from a sure thing, but still not quite there. Our gut says Nay, but our head says that he'll probably wait it out, make a move or two during the season and squeak by in the end. And the end result is all the matters. A nervous Yay! for this one.
