Simon Ben-Ephraim
position: Power Forward/Center
age: 19
height: 7'1"
weight: 255 lbs
Current Team: IDF (Israeli Defense Force)
Prospect Grades:
B C C- B- C+ A
Strengths:
Before joining the Israeli Defense Force, Ben-Ephraim lit it up and has been touted as the best player by far to ever emerge from Israel, a hot-bed for up and coming basketball talent.
Ben-Ephraim has very polished post moves and is exceptionally raw everywhere else. He could end up being one of the most well-rounded big man talents in the league in a few years.
He has a great stoke from inside the arc and the free throw line, which has sparked comparisons to Pau Gasol. In fact, his game is nearly identical to Gasol's as a rookie.
Weaknesses:
He will have been in the army for two years upon being drafted, which calls to question whether or not it has impacted his upside. He has not played against professional competition since being 17 and as a result, many scouts question his readiness at the next level.
Other than that, his game has no glaring weaknesses, which is why he may well be worth the gamble.
Notes:
The Israeli army has granted him a leave of absence after this year of service, which means he will be available right away.
The only conditions of his release is that he play for Team Israel whenever asked and that he fulfill his military obligations after his playing career.
None of this should have any impact on his status with the team that drafts him, meaning he will be ready go after draft night.
He is expected to be a top-10 prospect, possibly even top-3.
