Curtis Sanders
'Sanders with his favorite yoga mat and a bottle of water.'
position: Guard/Forward
age: 19
height: 6'6
weight: 205lbs
Current Team: Minnesota
Prospect Grades:
B- B C B- C A
Strengths:
Explosive athlete. Great first step and top notch jumping ability. Great finisher in transition and loves to posterize people. Strong build allows him to take the hit and still finish for 3pt plays. Nice elevation on his jump shot. Loves to take the pull up trey and hits it at a good percentage. Deep range. Blow by ability makes him extremely dangerous. Can create for himself and others. Makes some spectacular passes leading to easy buckets for team mates. Good lateral quickness and great anticipation lead to plenty of steals. Will also block a few shots. Known to sneak inside for impressive put back jams.
Weaknesses:
Inconsistent effort. He is so much better than his competition that he tends to coast at times. Has plenty of range on his jumper, but needs to become more consistent. Better from deep than from the mid range area. Decent free throw shooter, but should be better(lack of concentration). Solid handle for a youngster, but will look for the highlight reel play which leads to turnovers. Seems to avoid banging inside for rebounds. Could be more intense on the defensive end. Can shut down opposing wings when he wants to. Will leave his man and gamble on defense. Gets away with it because his athleticism will allow him to recover, but will get burned at the next level.
Notes:
Has all the makings of an elite level BBS prospect. Was diagnosed with Crohn's disease at age 13. Manages to keep it under control with medications and intensive yoga practice. Potential to be an impact player at any level, as long as his health holds up.
Update:
Health continues to remain in check. Sanders has displayed greater work ethic over the summer and scouts say that he has improved in some areas of his game. He is also rumored to be 1 inch taller and has reportedly gained a noticeable amount of muscle mass.
Update:
Three point shot is even more consistent now. Ability to get team mates involved is progressing as is his ball control. Also becoming more involved on the glass.
MoInfo:
Sanders has become more aggressive scoring the rock and as a result seems to have become more turnover prone. Defensively, he appears more committed and his mid range game has improved.
