We haven't seen a comeback like this since Britney Spears. Thats right Former Dallas Mavericks 2x BBS Champions General Manager Dave Krupinski is back in BBS not too far from his old stomping grounds. Dave took over for the incumbent GM All-Star aka Scottie Reynolds' personal nut sucker as GM of the San Antonio Spurs who have been an abysmally mediocre franchise in BBS.
After Dave walked into the sunset after a controversial ending to his illustrious BBS career, Dave has been away for 10 years from the league. Despite number of whispers over the years of a possible comeback Dave always denied reports from his estate in Costa Rica. "I walked away with no regrets and I'm just focused on enjoying life and living the dream."
Occasionally Dave's phone would ring from coaches around the league asking him for advice or analysis but other than that Dave had no knowledge of what was going on in the league.
"I didn't miss it what so ever. I thought I would but after a few months went by then a few years I almost completely forgot about it." Dave said in our interview.
Until recently an unexpected encounter at a Costa Rican super market. " I was shocked to see him because its been 10 years and we haven't spoke." Said Dave. "I was just walking down the banannas aisle and heard someone say, "Coach? is that you."
Dave hadn't heard the word coach in so long he turned around surprised and said, "West" It was his former player David West who was a major part in Dallas' championship runs. David West was one of the most unherald and unselfish players in BBS. Acquired from the Houston Rockets, David West headed to Dallas and saw his career explode under the tootledge of GM/Coach Krupinski. West was only making a mere 6 million dollars at the time and quickly became one of the best players in the league. He even resigned for a cheap rate when his contract was up starting his salary at 9 million. West went onto coach saying he wish he would have taken less money this way the team could have stayed together and avoided hard cap penalties which eventually led to West having to leave the team to head to Milwaukee under league rules. "Typical West trying to be a hero by making it seem like it was his fault when in reality is was all a FA calculation on my end. He was one special player" said Dave.
So Krupinski asked West if he still kept in contact with the old guys like Lebron, Chandler, Krstic, Beasley. He said how Lebron never won anything again and he was making mega money, Beasley and Krstic were still dominating the league as well on their seperate paths. Chandler opened up his own school for the blind.
Krupinski then reached out to league Commisioner Spence and said whats up and immediately Spence said they might have an opening in Denver and Krupinski flirted with the idea. There were a lot of strong rumors going around and this time it was actually plausible that there might be indeed a return. Thing didn't work out and Krupinski was getting in from surfing when he got a text. "San Antonio wants you to be their new GM/Coach" Krupinski already knew the area and accepted their offer to make him the highest paid GM in all of BBS.
Quickly there was a lot of controversy around the league with him taking over the team. He made quick work and started trading and cleaning house. Players for picks was the name of the game and former GM All-Star openly criticized his replacement for ruining the already weak franchise.
