For now its just a veto. For future reference, if I ever say "I dont know about this guy, lets give him a chance" this means, I dont know if this guy is a good GM or not but we should give him a chance. So if the guy makes a bad first deal, it may be vetoed. Doesnt mean Im gonna give up on the guy, just means his trades will be viewed critially by me and they may need to be worked on. Everyone in BBS has been pretty lucky that weve always had a good core of GMs with a solid wait list. Well, as the GM core become finicky and decides certain Gms cant be here, the Gm wait list gets thinner. As a group we need to develop some new GMs. +10 I hate when guys try to rape the new gm....How the hell do we expect to keep new guys if we always go for the rape instead of trying to help them adjust to the league. An another thing, maybe lighten up a bit on the new GMs. No unknown or n00b type Gm wants to come into an established league and get picked on. Lets try and make the transition a little easier. Sim leagues need some new GMs and it seems like the jaded asshole Gms that we all are tend to be rough on newer guys. |

Spence, my point is that the approach you had with this guy leads to this kind of trade. I read and understood your post, I just don't understand the reasoning. That's why I'm saying that if you take this kind of approach and don't put a trade ban/make him run deals by you, the other GM shouldn't suffer if he makes a bad deal.
I know that you're saying if his deal sucks, you'll veto it, but I don't see how that's the proactive/productive way of hiring unknowns. I think the better idea would've been to make him run deals by you, and my gripe is that since he didn't have to do that, and he made an awful deal, another GM gets screwed.

Also, when new guys come in that I know, and make bad deals, I don't veto. Matt made some deals I didn't like when he first started, but he's a good Gm and I knew hed be around.

Spence, that's not true about me being down on new GMs. I thought hiring Idle and Mike sucked, big deal. That wasn't the case with Dash, or Scott, or Chipper (unless you think me saying he was taking the wrong direction was me not liking the hiring), or Matt, or anyone else I can think of, except for Maniac in like 2003. I think there have been a ton of good new hires.
As for me not helping find new GMs--I'm not in any other leagues right now, sorry. But WTF are you talking about? I don't help with hiring new GMs? How did Nanz and Andrew get their starts in BBS then! They were both my assistant GMs and I gave them control of my DCs to figure out how FBB worked. Dan and Pig wouldn't even be in BBS if Mark and I hadn't talked about it around them. For better or worse, the same is true for Devin. I have always helped with getting guys into the league. I tried it with Mark's roommate earlier this year. I just don't have anyway of helping out online. I don't post on RealGM, and I'm not in other leagues.

For as tough as you are on new hires, or new Gms it has been awhile since you helped finding new GMs. Andrew had been a great hire up until the last 6 months. Nanz is obviously great.
