1. Dallas Mavericks - Nate Thurmond C 6'11'' 225 27 B- D+ C A- B+ A
The Mavericks need a center badly and are on the verge of competing so an go a little older with Thurmond. Thurmond should be a defensive anchor for the Mavs.
2. Chicago Bulls - Elvin Hayes C 6'9'' 235 22 B D+ D+ B+ B A
The Bulls need a player to build around so Hayes is a perfect fit here. More offensive upside then the other 2 big men in this draft, Hayes could become a 20-10 guy for the Bulls eventually.
3. Detroit Pistons - Wes Unseld C 6'7'' 245 22 C+ D+ C B+ B+ A
With Marcus Hayes already at center Unseld will be a perfect fit at PF. While undersized, Unseld is a terrific rebounder and defender. Expect him to be a 10 rebound guy as a rookie and to become an elite defender in time.
4. Minnesota Timberwolves - Don Chaney SG 6'5'' 210 22 B- B- C+ B C A
Shooting guard isnt a need for the Wolves with Jerry West there already, but they cannot pass on Chaney. With West providing enough flexibility to play PG, bringing in Chaney is a no brainer. Chaney has big upside and should be a very good 2 way guard.
5. Orlando Magic - Gus Johnson PF 6'6'' 230 29 B+ C- D B A- B
Magic need to add big player, and Johnson while not huge is the best big man available at this point. Johnson is a little older then youd want, but most expect the Magic to try and compete this year so his age shouldn't be a problem.
6. Houston Rockets (from Portland Trail Blazers) - Rick Adelman PG 6'1'' 175 22 C+ C B B C A
Rockets don't need a PG with Will Henderson there currently, but they cant pass up on the best PG in this draft. Adelman will need time to develop but eventually he should be a BBS starter quality PG.
7. Miami Heat - Rich Jones PF 6'6'' 220 22 B+ C+ C C+ C+ A
The Heat need alot of work, so grabbing a solid versatile scorer like Jones should be perfect. He can play 3 or 4 and he can score inside and out.
8. Seattle Supersonics - Bob Kaufmann C 6'8'' 240 22 B C C+ B- B A
Sonics are in the early stages of a rebuild so they just want to acquire as much talent as possible. Kaufmann is a bit short for center but he can score and board. The Sonics can figure out where to play him later.
9. Washington Wizards - Ron Boone SG 6'2'' 200 22 B+ B C+ C+ C B
The Wizards really need a PG, and while Boone wont fit there his scoring is too hard to pass up. Boone may be good enough to push Jim Barnett to PG.
10. Toronto Raptors - Dick Cunningham C 6'10'' 245 22 C+ D+ D+ A- B B
The Raptors love to acquire young big men because they are so valuable in BBS. Expect the raps to grab Cunningham and then stick him on the bench for a couple years and develop him.
11. New Orleans Hornets - Herm Gilliam SG 6'3'' 190 22 A- C C+ C C+ B
Hornets dont have a clear cut need here so they just grab someone who looks to have intriguing potential. Gilliam cant defend, but he is a very good scorer and might become an interesting PG in the future.
12. Denver Nuggets - Jim Eakins C 6'11'' 215 22 B C C+ B+ C+ B
Nuggets already have some nice bigs but you cant pass on a 6-11 player that can score and defend at #12 in the draft. This may make it easier for the Nuggets to deal Gabe Aimetti or Rory Davis as well.
13. New Orleans (from Houston Rockets) - George Stone SF 6'7'' 195 22 B+ C C B C+ B
Once again the Hornets just go for BPA. In Stone they get a very good inside scorer who can defend and board a little. Stone and GIlliam should bring some excitement to the Hornets this coming season.
