1. Boston Celtics – Kareem Abdul-Jabbar C
A true franchise player from Day 1, Kareem is a guy that should be a top option scorer and put up 25 points per game as a rookie. A no-brainer selection here and a reason to think the Celtics will be back in the playoffs soon.
2. Minnesota Timberwolves (from Utah Jazz) – Jo Jo White SG
The Wolves are already such a good team, adding the 2nd pick in this draft seems unfair. In White they get a super combo guard that can score and handle. The Wolves should be an elite team for the next 5 years at least.
3. Atlanta Hawks – Norm Van Lier PG
The Hawks have a ton of talent and no point guard. Van Lier will help that situation immediately. Van Lier is a very good passer, defender and shooter who should start from Day 1.
4. Seattle Supersonics – Bob Dandridge SF
He Sonics also need a point guard desperately so Norm Van Lier should be their #1 target. In this scenario the Sonics can’t pass on Dandridge. A very good 2 way scorer, Dandridge has the ability to be a rare A- A- scorer.
5. New York Knicks (from Detroit Pistons) – Bingo Smith SF
Smith is a very good inside score and has the ability to be a very good defender. Smith doesn’t have much of a jump shot just yet but he should fit in perfectly with the Knicks at shooting guard.
6. New Orleans Hornets – Neal Walk C
The Hornets already have some nice big men but you can never pass on big men talent in the BBS. Walk has good size and is a very solid scorer. Walk should be a good compliment to Sawyer Verschagen and John Block.
7. Miami Heat (from Golden State Warriors) – Butch Beard SG
The Heat had a horrible year. Winning on extremely little talent is always the worst possible scenario. Luckily they get a solid young prospect here at 7 with Butch Beard. Beard is a very good inside scorer and defender that plays the game like it should be played.
8. Cleveland Cavaliers – Skeeter Swift PG
Swift is one of those high risk high reward types. He isn’t a pure point guard, but he can score. He also has some personal issues that may make it tough from him to develop. A boom or bust player.
9. Chicago Bulls – Lucius Allen PG
The Bulls had high hopes this year, but they were dashed rather quickly. Here they add Lucius Allen a very solid point guard that will be a huge upgrade over Doctor Desmond.
10. Las Vegas Rebels (from San Antonio Spurs) – Fred Carter SG
Rebels just need to add BPA here and Carter is it. Carter is a very nice inside out scorer who likes to defend as well. He should be a solid starter in BBS.
11. Miami Heat – Larry Cannon SG
Cannon is a pretty solid young player that has a ton of potential. Only time will tell what he will turn out like, but he could be extremely good one day.
12. Phoenix Suns – Willie Wise SF
The Suns need a big timer scorer to replace Omar Rickards. Wise has some nice attributes and should fit in at small forward or shooting guard.
13. Utah Jazz (from Los Angeles Clippers) – George Thompson SG
It’s never good when the worst team in the league gets the 13th pick in the draft. Not much the Jazz can do except try and pick correctly here. Thompson is a very good scorer with some upside but no desire to play defense.
