1. Spurs - Artis Gilmore C 7'2'' 240 22 B C- C- A- B+ A
No clear cut #1 this year, but when you can get a defensive center piece like Gilmore its hard to pass him up. Gilmore should be a great shot blocker, man to man defender and rebounder. Spurs don't have much to build around at this point.
2. Warriors - Spencer Haywood C 6'8'' 225 22 B+ C D+ C+ B+ A
Warriros already have a nice C in Cowens so adding a player like Haywood to play PF would be perfect. Haywood is more of a scorer and rebounder, then a defender. The Warriors need a #1 option, and while Haywood might not be that good, he should help the Warriros a ton.
3. Pistons - Elmore Smith C 7'0'' 250 22 C+ D+ D A- B+ A
Pistons seem to be building around defense so Smith should fit perfect at C. Smith is a good shot blocker and defender that lacks any offensive game. Add in Rudy Tomjanovic and Rick Adelman and the Pistons have a nice defensive core.
4. Jazz - Austin Carr SG 6'4'' 200 23 B+ C+ C+ C D+ A
Carr is a pretty horrible defender, but offensively he is first rate. Put Carr and Archibald together and they should be a big time offensive backcourt for years to come.
5. Knicks - Charles Johnson PG 6'0'' 170 22 C B- B- B+ C A
Knocks need a PG bad, and CJ is the best in the draft. A solid ball handler and defender, Johnson should fit right in with the Knicks desire to always have quality defenders.
6. Pacers - Clifford Ray C 6'9'' 230 22 C+ D+ C A- B A
Pacers arent that bad. They had tons of injuries this year and are rewarded with a top notch defender inside in Ray. Ray should start from Day 1 and the Pacers should be back in the playoffs next year.
7. Raptors (from Bulls) - Sidney Wicks PF 6'8'' 225 21 B+ C- C- C+ C+ A
Raps love to add young big men. While they already have some very nice big spects, they arent afraid to always take the BPA and add to strengths. Here they get a very good scorer with some upside in Wicks.
8. Heat - Mike Newlin SG 6'4'' 200 22 C+ A- C+ C+ C- A
Heat dont need anymore guards, but they cant pass on Newlin. he's the BPA here and they'd be foolish to draft for need.
9. Raptors - Dave Robisch C 6'10'' 235 21 B+ C C- C+ C+ B
Raps add get another solid young big in Robisch. Looks like he could be a solid starting PF in BBS.
10. Nuggets - Freddie Brown SG 6'3'' 182 23 B- B- C+ B- C- B
Brown is a combo guard that seems as though he could develop into either a very good 6th man, or into a staring PG.
11. Sixers - Larry Steele SF 6'5'' 185 22 B- C C A- C B
Steele should be a very good role plyer that should start at SF and provide defense and a solid floor game.
12. Rockets - Curtis Rowe PF 6'7'' 225 22 A- C- C- C+ C+ B
Big time inside scorer that might not have the defense required to start.
13. Warriors (from Clippers) - Jim Cleamons PG 6'3'' 185 22 B- C+ B- C+ C B
Solid PG spect that can do a little of everything.
