End of the Season Mock Draft
1- Los Angeles Clippers- G Derrick Rose
The Clippers are rumored to be fond of two players in the draft but they would be foolish not to go with Rose if they indeed get the No. 1 pick. Rose has a rare combination of scoring ability, leadership and competitiveness. He can be the staple of the franchise for years to come.
2- Indiana Pacers- F Michael Beasley
Indiana already has their point guard of the future established in Rudy Fernandez so it only makes sense they take the best young big man prospect in the draft which is Beasley. A strong scorer, decent rebounder to start, Beasley should only get better with time and be a perennial All-Star when it’s all said and done.
3- Cleveland Cavaliers- G O.J. Mayo
Unless Beasley magically drops here, Cleveland if they are picking at No. 3, will take Mayo. The former SC guard has had his troubles off the court but he certainly brings well rounded ratings on to it. Mayo should be a perfect fit in Cleveland as well and be able to have a chance in capturing the rookie of the year award from the top two picks.
4- Denver Nuggets- G Eric Gordon
With last year’s lotto pick Mike Conley on board already, the Nuggets can shift their focus to shooting guard. Gordon is a dynamic young player and can automatically be a better option than incumbent Daquean Cook. However, Denver can also look at another combo guys like Jerryd Bayless or bigs Anthony Randolph and Darrell Arthur.
5- Miami Heat- G Jerryd Bayless
Bayless seems like the logical choice here for Miami. His quick play and instincts should take this team in the right direction going forward. If untaken, Gordon, Kevin Love and Brook Lopez may also be options.
6- Golden State Warriors- G DJ Augustin
Perhaps the most BBS ready guard in this draft, Augustin is good value here at No. 6 for the Warriors. He can step right in and lead the Warriors with his good outside shooting and strong ball handling skills. Should the Warriors look in another direction, they may like Anthony Randolph or Danilo Gallinari.
7- Portland Trail Blazers- F Anthony Randolph
If Augustin is off the board, Randolph could the Blazers guy. They need a nice young athletic big to put alongside Thaddeus Young and Al Thornton but is Randolph the best choice here? They may also look at Kevin Love and Darrell Arthur depending on their big board.
8- New Orleans Hornets- F Kevin Love
Center Andris Biedrins needs a frontcourt mate and Kevin Love seems to fit the bill the best. His passing and solid all-around game should be a breeze of fresh air in New Orleans. The Hornets could also look at Brook Lopez, Darrell Arthur and Danilo Gallinari.
9- Denver Nuggets (From Nets)- F Darrell Arthur
In this scenario, the Nuggets get their big man after taking a young guard prospect. Arthur seems to make sense because he has inside scoring and defense that the Nuggets need. Plus he should mesh perfectly with Dwight Howard down low and in the post. Denver may also take a look at Brook Lopez, Brandon Rush and Nicolas Batum.
10- Golden State Warriors (From Rockets)- C Brook Lopez
This pick can go many ways but the Warriors should be fortunate if Lopez drops all the way here to them. They need a more established big man than what they have right now and Lopez should do the trick. They may also be looking for help in the forward spot also with Joe Alexander or Donte Greene and/or Russell Westbrook or Brandon Rush at the guard spots.
11- San Antonio Spurs- F Joe Alexander
The Spurs can go in several different directions with this pick because of the caliber of players in their lineup already. They can go simply on potential which would be Alexander or go for need in which they can take Russell Westbrook as a backup to Deron Williams. They may also look at projects like Nicolas Batum and Bill Walker who are said to have high ceilings.
12- New York Knicks- G Russell Westbrook
It’s GM Outlawz first lottery draft in a while so it will be interesting to see who he gets. He could take a gamble on a guy like Nicolas Batum or possibly Brandon Rush, but I think he’ll be content if Westbrook falls here. A great defender, Westbrook should see time early if selected by the Knicks.
13- Portland Trail Blazers (From Hawks)- G Brandon Rush
The Blazers are rumored to have liked Rush’s game for a while now so he seems to be a lock here if the Hawks’ pick lands last in the lottery. Rush is a nice outside scorer and could develop into a nice young wing in the league. Should the Blazers balk on Rush, they can look at Georgetown’s Roy Hibbert, France’s Nicolas Batum or Syracuse’s Donte Greene.
