With the season over and the Rockets headed home, Adonal Foyle thought it was time for some team bonding. "It was just one of those days. I woke up at seven, paid the hooker I slept with ten bucks to make me some eggs, and took a dump. And you know, that's rare. So it got me thinkin', what else is on the agenda for such a special day? I mean, the eggs were great. Sunny-side up with some whole wheat toast. She touched my balls the whole time."
And that's when it occurred to Adonal: he was the only veteran left on the Rockets roster; at 33, he had eight years on his next oldest teammate. "Shit," Foyle said.
Later on that day, Foyle looked through his phone and discovered there were only girls in it. "It was 35 hookers, my agent's wife and my mama. My grandma won't get a cell phone!"
So he phoned into team headquarters and got the numbers of teammates Mo Williams, Thabo Sefolosha and Leon Powe. "I decided I'd call them up and we'd go see Kung Fu Panda!!!"
First, Foyle called Williams. "I called him like eight times. Left him a voice message each time. He does this thing where he pretends to pick up and says, 'what's up?' then he says to leave a message. Gets me every time! I kept telling him my name, number and address and when I'd be available, which was always, and he never got back to me."
Next, he dialed Sefolosha. "Thabo and I, we're really good friends. One time he passed it to me and I almost scored but I got my shot blocked. I called him, and he picked up, and I told him it was me. Then he pretended like he couldn't speak English even though he's always singing Elton John songs in the locker room. So I hung up."
Finally, Foyle rang Powe, his frontcourt mate. "Leon and I fought for minutes, but one time when we were playing in practice, I airballed a layup and he laughed. So did I! It was so much fun that day. Leon told me he had to mow his parent's lawn in New Mexico this offseason so never to call him again. I was sad."
The big night out ultimately resulted in Foyle hiring another hooker and taking her to Kung Fu Panda. At the movie theater, he ran into Thabo, Leon and Mo sharing a large popcorn. "Maybe next time they'll invite me," he said, "that'd would be really neat!"
