2010 Top 5 Free Agent Signings[/u]
1- LaMarcus Aldridge, C Seattle Sonics $93,750,000 over 6 years
There are sad days in Lakertown now that the former Texas Longhorns star has deserted Tinseltown for the Pacific Northwest. Sonics GM Aar was wise though to throw max money at this up-and-coming center and it should pay major dividends down the road for the Sonics rebuilding plan.
2- Jannergo Pargo, G Phoenix Suns $15,000,000 over 1 year
One of the integral parts of the Bucks’ championship run was due to the emergence of Pargo as a guard in this league. He finally got a nice check from the Phoenix Suns who are happy to hold on to him or get a nice pick package for compensation of his services. Whatever it may be, Pargo was a nice addition to the Suns without throwing multiple seasons at him either.
3- Vince Carter, G Sacramento Kings/Orlando Magic $36,750,000 over 2 years
GM Scott managed to steal Carter away from the Los Angeles Clippers and send him to the Kings for a potentially high draft pick in addition to Antawn Jamison. Not only did this move help both teams, but it was able to be done relatively easy because of the contract that both teams had. Good signing by the Kings and nice acquisition for the Magic.
4- Paul Pierce, G Utah Jazz $131,250,000 over 6 years
The dynasty may not be over in the New Jersey but the end of the Paul Pierce era certainly affects it. First year GM Lumley came in and threw max dollars at one of the best scorers in the league. The result is a nice tandem created between Derrick Rose and Pierce. This was certainly an impact player that is going from the east coast now to the Midwest.
5- Allen Iverson, G Sacramento Kings $57,750,000 over 3 years/Rip Hamilton G New York Knicks $17,000,000 over 1 year
We have a tie for No. 5 best free agent signings. Along with the Carter signing, the Kings struck it big with the signing of Iverson from the Pistons. By signing a three year deal, Iverson has a nice contract to trade and keep if the Kings decide to compete. However, Iverson may be dealt soon possibly to a contender for another rebuilding package. As for the Knicks, they picked up a very nice piece to go along with guard Gilbert Arenas by getting Hamilton from Golden State. As a very good outside option, they should be a very formidable threat along the perimeter and may even feed it down low to Ivan Chiriaev, if needed.
Notable Re-signings:
Dirk Nowitzki, F Denver Nuggets $83,125,000 over 4 years
Jermaine O’Neal, F Denver Nuggets $59,062,500 over 3 years
Ivan Chiriaev, F New York Knicks $126,328,125 over 7 years
Baron Davis, G New Jersey Nets $84,164,063 over 4 years
Rajon Rondo, G Boston Celtics $120,312,500 over 7 years
Brandon Roy, G Memphis Grizzlies $120,312,500 over 7 years
