For the first time in years the Portland Trail Blazers had a quiet off-season where no big blockbuster trades went down. They have actually yet to make a trade this new basketball season. What did happen for the Blazers though came out of training camp where third year player D.J Augustin experienced the best camp of his young career. He improved in his outside shooting, handling, defense and rebounding to make him a legit point guard threat for the Blazers and someone to fear at all times on the court. This boost from D.J could be just what the Trail Blazers need in order to succeed this season. Last season the point guard position was questioned all year long and a drastic move in the playoffs could have been the fault to the Blazers second round exit. GM Dan Basone started veteran Eddie House for the last few games of the first round where the Blazers managed to win in seven. Going into the Denver Nuggets series Basone thought House was just the spark they needed to take this team to the WCF, but in the end the Blazers fell in six games.
With the new season on the horizon a lot of talk is coming out of the league early last night that the Blazers were the team to beat in the west. But when Basone woke up this morning he was greeted with some shocking news of a blockbuster deal that went down within the division. The Lakers and Warriors made a big deal where the Lakers received big man Al Jefferson and star point guard Tony Parker. This deal is pending league approval but its safe to say it is pretty much in the bag. Upon hearing the news Basone had this to say. “ What a deal for both teams. Gm Pig does a great job by getting young Kevin Durant who has a lot of promise to become a star in this league, while GM Nanz makes his lineup one of the most feared in the league. He is going to be hard to beat. I thought this season would be our year; it is going to be a bigger challenge now. I still fear a lot of other teams in the West, I may have to make a deal to put us over the top.”
While no word on what a possible deal could be there have been rumors of Portland going after a veteran forward in the league. We will just have to wait and see if anything goes down.
