1. After complaints about laziness in his trade block, a lack of posting and failure to return PMs, is it time to cut the cord on Donatello?
He is named after a Ninja Turtle but I don't know if that's enough to save him. This league thrives on activity as I and many of us have learned and it doesn't seem like he does it enough. I think Dan compared him to Keelty before but he really has just stocked up on talent and hasn't made a clear direction for his team. I also inquired about Matt Harpring and it took him a day to get back to me. And he wanted a little too much for him so maybe he does have a plan? Either way, I think he needs to make some moves personnel wise or post more, or else I think his days may be numbered.
2. Nobody has been fired from the Contract Year, though it's safe to say multiple guys have done very shitty jobs throughout their stint in this league. Change the rule to make it stricter and present your case here.
I would say cut it down to 2 years to get to 40/playoffs after failing to do it after one season. I think that will make it more competitive and not allow teams to stay idle and make moves faster in hopes to avoid being kicked out. Two seasons is probably not enough time to do a complete rebuild but guys like Outlawz and Pig have been able to do it in two seasons or less with wise drafting and nice free agent signings. So I think reducing the contract year by a year can make this rule stricter.
3. Is Outlawz in the middle of turning his team into a contender, or with shitty TCs from his draft picks and an inability to get any interest in Rip, has this been his first big failure in BBS?
I had to read this question a couple times because it was little unclear but I don't think it has been a failure at all for him yet. He acquired the three time reigning MVP in Gilbert Arenas, retained Ivan Chiariev and got RIP pretty cheap. Despite not being able to move Hamilton and suffering a bad TC, he'll still guide this team to the playoffs and they will be a force for the next 3-4 seasons.
4. Do the Lakers really have enough offense to be do any damage in the playoffs?
They have a very scary, attack because they're so balanced on offense. Their backcourt can put the ball in hole at will and should be nightmare for oppositions. It seems like they can upgrade accordingly at small forward with a nice outside shooter with decent defense and they will be OK. They should be the favorites to win the Pacific and possibly the West this year.
5. Who had the best offseason? Who had the worst?
Again I think Outlawz made it his by dealing for Arenas, signing RIP and retaining his guys. There's some other guys that are certainly worthy like Nanz in L.A. and Aaron in ORL but I still think Outlawz comes ahead because of the impact his deal has on the entire conference. The worst is hard to pin down but I have to say Aaron in DET. The team is off to a slow start and were unable to retain Allen Iverson. With the exception of the Marcus Banks signing, they're team is relatively old and nothing new to bring to the table after winning the chip 2 years ago. Definitely may need to rebuild soon.
6. Would you have fired Lumley?
It seems like it was one day only that Lumley could not make the cut but it seemed to be a trend since starting the the new BBS. I don't think I would have fired him but I think Spencer gave him plenty of chances to stick around. His activity was a little more lousy than normal and like Spencer said, that's what he's known for. I think he's done with BBS for a while unless he gets on Spencer's good side again.
7. Who is the most impossible GM to trade with?
Jordan. He is tough. I think I may have spoken trade with him the most of any GM and made the least deals with him. I only remember making one deal with him and it was a rather easy deal. I think Tony Battie for a future or something like that. He's a good GM but I think he's afraid to take a chance. Last year he did and got Pargo, and won the chip so maybe he has changed a bit. But still he's pretty tough.
8. Which team will win BBS this year?
The Lakers. I think they will eventually address their SF issue with another big pickup and they will go on to win it. I mean c'mon, Parker-Manu-J. Smith-Al Jeff? It doesn't get much better than that. Also don't sleep on the Wiz in the East. They always seem to the the sleeping giant that never wakes. Maybe this is JAH's year.
9. This offseason, Mark shopped the package of Elton Brand and Baron Davis for just one top prospects. Baron Davis and Elton Brand are two absolute superstars in the primes of their careers. Both have arguable the best set of ratings of any player at their respective positions if you forget the names Tony Parker and Gilbert Arenas. For some of examples of the ridiculousness of the trade market, Allstar wouldn't deal Mark Patrick Patter for Brand. He couldn't land Demar Derozan; he couldn't land Al-Farouq Aminu; he couldn't get Andrew Bynum. God forbid he ask about a guy like Chris Paul, who, gasp, has worse handles than Baron and isn't two superstars. He's just one. But he's six years younger than both these guys so his value is apparently 10x theirs combined. Objectivity aside, this is an indictiment of how pathetically warped some GMs are when it comes to what it takes to be a good GM. So, how severely do teams around the league overrate youth? If you disagree, well, you better fucking write an essay. And please, name names.
Youth is overrated but I think in the case of those players mentioned, none are those players are at their peak yet. In the case of Chris Paul, he is only 25 and has not reached his peak yet. I would like to gauge how much better he will be as he is already an MVP candidate now. He can be the greatest player possibly after Gilbert in his peak and I dont wan't to deal him for two proven veterans even if they are good. Not to dog on Brand and Davis, but both will probably get worse then get better which is why people will always take the youth. I have to say I would have done that deal if I would have kept Carter just because I think I would have been in a better position to compete. Now Paul, for the next 5-6 seasons, can single handily carry us to success which is why he holds more value.
10. Now, name some more names. Pick five GMs and tell them why they're doing a terrible job.
Aaron DET- Could be doing more for the future but is one of the greats so he'll get it together.
A2J MIN- I think it's time to deal Marbury while he still holds value. He has some nice young players and he can rebuild now while it's still early somewhat.
Don NO- He's been low on activity and alot of GM's have been wary of him. He needs to make some moves to save his job I think.
Keelty BOS- He could be doing more and I think he needs to make some big free agent signings. He needs to make some impact moves soon.
Allstar SAS- He has so many young bigs that he doesn't know what to with. He doesn't have a bonafied superstar and he has the pieces to get one, but he hasn't done it yet.
11. Washington sits in the 45+ win range in a depleted East. He has two elite talents and lots of good chips but hasn't kept an active block to add a piece. What does JAH need to do to put his team over the top?
Maybe package some of his youngins like Paul Harris, Jerome Beasley and Martynas Andriuskevicius for a nice young stud center. It seems to be the only weakness this team has. Bosh needs some support down low and I don't think Turiaf is enough. I still think this team is very talented and should be fine should stay as is but I think a move like that can really put them over the top.
12. What's the future for the Detroit Pistons? At this point, should Reilly keep squeezing the most he can out of his vets and turning deals for whichever impact player he can get, or is it time for Reilly's first rebuild in pretty much 40 BBS seasons?
Probably rebuild but it will be tough because his three best players are all over 29. I think Duncan should net some good value because hes a nice star but still aging. Not sure what the market is for a guy like Rashard Lewis and last I checked, people still aren't feeling Carlos Boozer. But who knows, Reilly always has a way of finding a way to win so I'm sure he has something up his sleeve.
13. Whatever you want to talk about. Shoot. Go. Do it.
So I'll admit it like I have before. I have been in the bottom tier of GMs for a while now. Largely it's been on me. I will be the first to say that. But I have had some bad luck too. Other than landing Rose with the first pick a couple years back, I've lost two big players to free agency (Caron Butler and Vince Carter) both after passing my contract year seasons. I'm not saying that's an excuse bot I gave valiant offers to both of them (Butler- MAX and Carter 1 year 16 mil) and it was just not meant to be. Also Marvin Williams ended up being a huge bust at No. 6 for me a couple years back which sucked big time and Martell Webster still hasn't panned out. There are also other things but still those aren't excuses but jus things I have had to deal with. Now that I have one of the best guards in the league in Chris Paul, I don't see why people think I have to deal him now. He's only 25, hasn't peaked so don't get on me if I don't deal him yet. I love his game and he's a one-of-a-kind player. I am kinda screwed picks wise down the road but I have a nice young core with the exception of Wallace and I think we can be competitive for time to come. So I hope to end my road of mediocrity despite my bad moves in the past and some bad luck along the way as well.
