Lance Stephenson is a 6-foot-5 shooting guard that has all the assets that make him a 'must have' on the list of most high level division 1 programs.
Lance Stephenson Ask any top reporter, which schools are on the top of his list and most will mention Memphis, Texas, Kansas and USC but ask Stephenson himself and one of his 'reported' secondary choices might just have to go right up there with his top choices.
On Thursday, when asked about the possibilities of committing St. John's, Stephenson said, "St. John's is looking real good right now. I'm trying to bring New York back so I think that (St. John's) would be a good decision."
Stephenson was also clear to point out that he has not made a final decision with regard to which school he will ultimately pick and won't decide on one until after the upcoming season. He plans to take a few more visits but it is also clear that St. John's is right up there in the running.
Asked if he think he would work well with the recent St. John's commit Omari Lawrence, Stephenson said, "Yeah, I think me and him could bring New York back."
Recently at the Boost Mobile Elite 24 media day, Stephenson, currently a shooting guard, alluded to wanting to evolve his skill set to become a point guard saying, "I'm trying to see if I could be a real point guard. Try to make assists. Try to be a playmaker."
As he goes into his senior year, the 6-foot-5 guard has made some self-evaluations as he prepares to embark on the next level. "I don't think I'm going to get any taller so I think I'm a good point guard height," says Stephenson.
Stephenson, shifting to point guard status might actually bode well with the possibilities of him becoming a member of the Red Storm and playing along side of Lawrence, who is a shooting guard. With Stephenson at point guard, the competition for minutes becomes a moot issue.
Stephenson also confirmed that even he and Durand Scott, another high level New York player, have already discussed the 'what if' possibilities of them both playing together on the Johnnies and the impact it would have on the team and the city.
Asked about his opinion of St. John's, as a team, right now and in the near future, the rising junior from the NYS federation defending champion Abraham Lincoln HS said, "They've already got a couple of good players and a good big man and I think with a new point guard coming in, we can work with it."

I'm not a huge fan of Stephenson but that would be huge for St. Johns.

Scott is best friends with Omari so there is a chance he might follow but right now I wouldn't call Scott too hot on St. John's.
St. John's though is very in the mix with a lot of top 100 kids and they have 1 scholarship left so I'd be happy to land any of them.
Boost Mobile Elite 24 is tonight. Anyone with ESPNU should definitely watch it.

st. john's is most definitely in the running...i've heard seton hall, st. john's, and europe
but lance is a baby and i don't think he's going to live up to the expectations. if he does go to st. john's, omari is the bigger catch.

I really do think Scott will end up at Pitt though. That recruiting class is going to be dirty for Jamie.

I don't think he can ever live up to the hype because the hype is just so unrealistic. He is a good player who is a big baby. Remember he is only in HS though he has a lot more time ahead of him to mature. Also he will put butts in the seats, put us on national tv, etc. If he does well in NY the city and St. John's would be crazy more so than if he did well anywhere else.

I've heard from a few people around the city today in the know that Lance is going to commit to St. John's. I don't have much details as they unfold I will post but this could be HUGE.

I've been meaning to bring this up. I know Aaric Murray wanted to stay in Philly but why the fuck did he pick La Salle?

Lots of good things with Pitt right now also. Jamie Dixon was given a three-year extension today which means his contract runs through 2015-2016. They should just rename the court at the Pete after him and get it over with.
It also seems more and more like Durand Scott will choose between Pitt and UConn. Jamie also has an in-house visit scheduled with five-star Dominic Cheek next Wednesday also - Pitt isn't believed to be a major player for Cheek, but they're still alive. That'd be an amazing grab for Pitt. He's a big, physical shooter that would really help any team. If they could get him that'd be two five-stars in 2009 along with a few other sick players. Dynamic recruiting class shaping up for Mr. Dixon.
The 2009 class is shaping up to be Dante Taylor, probably Talib Zanna (a three-star, 6'8" big from Maryland), J.J. Richardson (a three-star from Texas whom the coaching staff feels is the biggest steal in the country), Lamar Patterson (a four-star SF from NJ), and either Dominic Cheek (five-star from Jersey) or Durand Scott (a four-star from NY). That's a hell of a recruiting class.
Pitt's 2010 class is also starting to shape up as well. It's going to be a very small class - they'll probably only have two scholarships available. Phil Pressey (five-star PG), Kyrie Irving (four-star PG), and Isaiah Epps (four-star PG), and Will Barton (four-star SG) seem to be the most likely candidates to fill the 2010 class right now, but a lot could happen there of course.
