Miami Heat: Player Breakdown
510 Etan Thomas C 23 6'9'' 256 C+ C- D+ B C+ B
510 Etan Thomas C 80 28.2 8.3 7.9 1.7 0.6 1.4 1.1 .418 .686 .000
He had a solid year for a young big his age. He does a little bit of everything and is currently a FA. It would be nice to bring him back for a cheap 3 year contract but we will see what happens. In resignings he asked for a max deal which might have been the most outrageous request of any player in the league.
242 Travis Knight C 27 7'0'' 235 C+ C- D+ B B- C
242 Travis Knight C 82 20.1 5.6 5.5 1.2 0.5 1.0 1.3 .426 .592 .500
Knight put up solid backup numbers for us this year but I don’t really plan on bringing him back unless it’s for a cheap 1 year or 2 year contract.
159 Pau Gasol PF 21 7'0'' 227 B C C B B- A
159 Pau Gasol PF 80 34.0 18.2 10.2 2.8 0.9 1.3 2.1 .437 .789 .000
Pau Gasol joins Vince Carter as the franchise pieces on this team. They are our two best players and will serve that role for many season to come. As a rookie, I expected Gasol to have a great scoring year, but not a whole lot else. With the season over I could not have asked for a better year. He scored at will, and he even cracked the top 10 in the league as a rebounder as a rookie with a B- rating. He had a huge first TC and if he can have a repeat, or near repeat of that he’s going to be a star very soon. It’s also nice to see Gasol get some assists, very nice to see.
393 Lee Nailon PF 26 6'9'' 230 B- C C- C+ C+ B
393 Lee Nailon PF 76 16.2 6.3 4.4 0.9 0.3 0.5 0.9 .465 .743 .000
I like Nailon’s ratings, and he had very good production and %’s off of the bench. He’s fairly young but I kind of see him as a tweener. He’s undersized as a PF but not a good enough shooter to play SF. Having said that it would still be nice to have him back and see if he can continue to put up good numbers as a backup.
267 Brian Skinner PF 25 6'9'' 255 C+ C- C- B- C+ C
267 Brian Skinner PF 20 9.6 3.4 3.1 0.5 0.6 0.4 0.4 .492 .727 .000
Skinner put up some great numbers for 9 minutes a game and shot nearly 50% which is a big shocker. He only got about 200 minutes this year, which is equal to starting about 6-7 games, so it’s not enough to expect him to continually do this. He’s a free agent that we won’t have any interest resigning in this offseason.
410 Ron Mercer SF 25 6'7'' 210 B- C+ C C C- B
410 Ron Mercer SF 31 23.5 6.7 2.9 0.9 0.6 0.3 0.8 .428 .698 .219
Mercer had a hot start to the season and then got hurt for an extended period of time. He never really recovered and didn’t impress me enough to want to bring him back. He’s another FA and he will be in another uniform next year.
29 Walter Hermann SF 22 6'8'' 215 C B C- C- D+ C
29 Walter Hermann SF 50 22.4 3.1 3.0 0.8 0.6 0.1 0.6 .417 .784 .273
A young 2nd round pick who did nothing good his first training camp. He will be gone after his rookie contract expires next season.
481 Vince Carter SG 24 6'7'' 215 B+ B+ C B C B
481 Vince Carter SG 79 35.3 25.8 5.9 3.0 1.8 0.2 1.9 .456 .716 .396
Here we have the other highlight piece of our franchise. Vince had such an outstanding year. We gained him a little before halfway through the season and he impressed me nonstop. He scores right with the best in the league, one of the best rebounding guards in the league, a decent passer and an above average defender who can get some steals. He is very efficient, doesn’t turn the ball over, and shoots very good %’s. The best part is that he’s only 24 years old and this season he received a +10 potential boost. The sky is the limit for this UNC star.
278 Larry Hughes SG 22 6'5'' 188 B- C+ C B- C B
278 Larry Hughes SG 85 29.2 9.3 5.4 2.5 1.4 0.2 1.8 .457 .759 .339
Larry Hughes was a great addition to our team this year. We picked him up from the Pacers early in the year and he made his presence on the offensive end. He shot a very impressive 46% from the floor seeing time at SG and SF. He has potential for our team at SG and he’s a great team player with the ability to pass from any guard spot on the floor. Doesn’t turn the ball over much and rebounds the well very good for a guard. He didn’t have a good first TC so if he can bounce back from that he looks to have a good future with out team at the SG/SF spot.
382 Rodney Buford SG 23 6'5'' 189 C C+ C B- D+ B
382 Rodney Buford SG 6 3.0 1.8 0.3 0.3 0.0 0.0 0.7 .500 .000 .500
Buford is a FA who never really got a chance to prove himself on our team. His ratings aren’t horrible so it would be nice to get him back for a year or two to see if he can have some big TC’s. He has the rating set to where if he had a blowup TC he would look very nice.
322 Troy Hudson PG 25 6'1'' 178 C B B C+ D B
322 Troy Hudson PG 71 31.9 10.3 2.5 6.6 1.3 0.2 1.8 .441 .710 .340
Can’t say enough about Hudson, we were able to acquire him for a measly 2nd round pick late this season. He is my kind of point guard, he’s very efficient with only 1.8 tpg at 25 years old. He’s young, had a good first TC, and shoots good %’s. He wanted big money and we aren’t going to give it to him but we are definitely looking to bring him back for a multi-year contract.
158 Carlos Arroyo PG 22 6'2'' 220 C C+ B+ B- D+ B
158 Carlos Arroyo PG 85 24.7 7.3 2.2 5.1 1.0 0.1 2.5 .414 .738 .326
Arroyo was another piece we received in the Pacers trade. He had one of the best first TCs in the BBS. Improved in many categories and is still a little raw, but is only 22. If he can have a few more good offseasons this guy could surprise everyone. He’s a great passer and now we are going to find out if he can limit his turnovers as he gets older and improve his defense. He will never be a scorer but a few upgrades in his outside would help him immensely.
516 Chris Herren PG 26 6'2'' 190 C B- C+ C+ D+ D
516 Chris Herren PG 82 10.0 3.3 0.9 1.5 0.3 0.0 0.4 .423 .658 .349
Herren was stuck behind Hudson and Arroyo all year so he didn’t get much time. He’s a FA now as we aren’t bringing him back to our squad. He played well when he was on the floor but he’s never going to be anything.
510 Etan Thomas C 23 6'9'' 256 C+ C- D+ B C+ B
