After a shocking off season that included many of the better players switching teams, the 2012 BBS Season brings tremendous questioning on whether the Portland Trailblazers will repeat in their championship season or if the young Philadelphia 76ers will surpass them and hold themselves as the Champions in this new era in BBS. Lots of teams improved and lots of teams, well, did not improve as much. Here are YB's 2012 BBS Predictions.
Boston Celtics.
Projected Record: 30-52
The Celtics plan to continue on in their process of rebuilding. Because they do not have their draft pick, expect the Celtics to make some moves mid season to improve their team but as of this point, they are going to miss the playoffs in the vastly improved Eastern Conference. Expect Jordan Hill to become the leader of the team before the season ends.
Miami Heat.
Projected Record: 62-20
Without a doubt, the Heat vastly improved their team for the present with the acquisition of Carmelo Anthony. With the improvement of Rubio, the star-studded Miami Heat team should have ease with the competition in the BBS. When you can say that Brandon Roy is the worst player in your starting lineup, is an immense statement. Expect the Miami Heat to contend for the BBS Championship.
New Jersey Nets.
Projected Record: 55-27
The Nets should be a pretty solid team in the Eastern Conference this season but with the loss of Ben Wallace, who many would agree was the catalyst of the team's defense last season, may be too big replenish from. Hopefully having Michael Redd for a whole season should also help the team which lacked the outside shooting that Redd would have brought if he stayed healthy all season. Chris Paul seems to be improved and who can forget the best young big man in the league in Greg Oden? It should be interesting to see how this team shapes up but a championship run is not out of the question as they will continue to be the best defensive team in the league.
New York Knicks.
Projected Record: 50-32
The Knicks have differed their team a lot since the days of Shaq and Tim Duncan. Forward, Ivan Chiriaev should average well above 20 PPG this season and along with Gilbert Arenas, should be more than enough to put them in the playoff picture. They should have a ton of scoring but the team just does not compare to some of the other elite teams in the BBS at this point. Roger Mason Jr. should be the exfactor of the team and if he can light up on fire and average 20+ points per game, it should add another offensive force on this team which could land them into another Championship experience.
Orlando Magic.
Projected Record: 40-42
The Orlando Magic went young this off season. They traded Darko for the new man in the middle, DeMarcus Cousins. He will definitely score a bit more than Darko but his defensive presence will be missed badly. Expect the Magic to give up a ton of runs but with their depth of young youth, they should be back into the play off picture extremely soon. DJ Augustin will more than likely lead the team in scoring. Just get used to hearing the names Cousins, Samuels, Anderson, Augustin, and Fisher because they will set the standards for the younger players in the BBS.
Philadelphia 76ers.
Projected Record: 0-82
Allhailmaniac is their GM.
Washington Wizards.
Projected Record: 48-34
The Washington Wizards regular season will not predict their playoff success. The team is more suited for the playoff game, as seen last year when they almost won the BBS Championship, however the Wizards did not make any large improvements and lost their leader in Dwyane Wade however the Wizards felt like they didn't need to make any large additions as they feel that youngster Paul Harris has made large improvements this year and should replenish whatever they lost in Wade.
Altlanta Hawks.
Projected Record: 52-30
The Hawks were one of the worst teams last year but GM Skillz took the initiative and added a large of veteran talent to intensively improve their team. The Hawks support a high scoring lineup of Dunleavy/ Butler/Beasley/Durant/Blatche. They should have 4 scorers in their lineup who should put up close to 20 PPG. This team is going to score a ton of points and may even make a push for contention as the BBS Champions. The only problem they have is their depth however they should make moves during the season to improve that. The Atlanta Hawks should easily be considered the most improved team this season.
New Orleans Hornets.
Projected Record: 38-44
While their team last year was taken advantage of by Eric Gordon's poor defense and too much pressure put on the shoulders of Renardo Sidney, they should feel at ease with the additions of Paul Pierce. The team might have some trouble scoring and the adjustment of Pierce learning the new offense will harm them. Sadly, New Orleans is in need of a winning season this year, but they will not succeed unless they make another addition mid-season which is not out of the question. The addition of Paul Pierce, however, will definitely enhance their chances.
Chicago Bulls.
Projected Record: 44-38
The Chicago Bulls improved greatly this season. They added Darrel Athur and Daniel Orton which should set a dynamic defensive front court along with Hasheem Thabeet. The team added a lot of offense in Jannero Pargo and with the improvements in Motiejunas' game. Don't expect Gerald Green to average 30 PPG again this year as they have a lot of more options offensively this year AND defensively. I feel that they're building their team like the Nets, through defense and mediocre scoring. The Bulls should do well and will probably coast into one of the latter playoff spots in the East.
Cleveland Cavaliers.
Projected Record: 39-43
The Cleveland Cavaliers have had a nice off season to improve their teams' season. The team acquired veterans Kwame Brown, Andre Iguodala, and Juan Dixon. They added some solid post defense and rebounding which will complement Bynum well in the veteran, Brown. They also added quite a bit of scoring in Iguodala and Dixon however the problem will be that the Cavaliers will have a poor perimeter defense in Dixon and Collison. Bynum and Brown might be able to make up enough of the defense for them to make the playoffs but they will probably miss the playoffs by a few games. It is alright because Bynum will only improve.
Detroit Pistons.
Projected Record: 24-58
Don't expect much from the Detroit Pistons. They should be in rebuild mode once again will simply not have enough offense to contend in the tough eastern conference. Expect them to trade veterans Josh Howard, Rashard Lewis and Jason Richardson by the end of the season. The team drafted point guard Willie Warren and they will want to see how their future all star point guard should fare in the league. Expect Brook Lopez to evolve into the leader of the team by the end of the season.
Indiana Pacers.
Projected Record: 36-46
Oh boy, the Pacers had an interesting off season. They lost Kevin Garnett, Carmelo Anthony, and Tracy McGrady but they improved their team for the future with the trades they made this off season. They have the best young back court in the league in Jrue Holiday and Stephen Curry and expect the Pacers to develop them this season. They should be up and ready to win again next season but will probably not have enough to make the play offs this season after losing so many of their key players and completely revamping their squad. Expect the Pacers to trade Allen Iverson by the end of the season to continue on their additions of good, young basketball players.
Milwaukee Bucks.
Projected Record: 38-44
The Bucks lost Yao, but they still have Okafor. Okafor himself could probably lead a team to a .500 season. The team is coming off a decade of dominance but they will definitely need to cool off this season as the team is headed towards the rebuilding era. Nothing really interesting was added this season to the Bucks team however expect Deron Williams and Mike Bibby to both be traded again this season as the Bucks plan to retool their team for the future. The major problem this team will face will be finding the second scorer on this team after Okafor. Glen Davis could provide that role until he is traded to revamp the new-look Milwaukee Bucks.
Toronto Raptors.
Projected Record: 37-45
The Toronto Raptors have a nice and interesting team. New big man Blake Griffin has a ton of pressure put on him and it will be interesting to see how he reacts. His preseason offensive numbers were less than impressive but we all know how crucial preseason is in determining a player's talents. OJ Mayo and Donte Green should put up a ton of points for the Raptors which should let GMs believe that this team could possibly squeak into the 8th spot in the Eastern Conference but also could be a disaster team if Blake doesn't prove to be as good as advertised. The Raptors didn't make any key acquisitions this off season but should be a decent team.
