* The following interview was recorded this past off-season.
Good morning, we are here today with Lakers GM Nanz to talk about the what the Lakers have gone through in the past year and what he expects this 2012 season from this team.
Thank you for taking some time to sit with us this morning, we know you are a busy playa. Now lets get to it. What were your feelings about last season?
First off thank you for having me. Well last year was very disappointing to me. We played great basketball all year long and we had a good time doing it. We got to 65 wins and we really thought we were in good shape to go into the playoffs. Smith became the player that we thought he would. His scoring went up and his defense was still the best at his position and with the players around him we thought we had a championship caliber team. 65 wins is a great accomplishment, don’t get me wrong, but that was not our goal. Our gal was to make it to the finals and we fell short.
You were a series away from reaching the finals but the Blazers had plans of their own. What do you think happened that series that allowed the Blazers to win it in 5?
Well they were a great team. They had balance and great scorers like Monta Thad JJ and Nenad. They came into our house and did whatever they wanted. They were just the better team that series where we played like shit. Manu was too busy getting down on his knees giving JJ a BJ so he wasn’t a factor at all that series. Tony also had a very tough time scoring the ball against monta and that was that. Smith led the way but when your top 2 players don’t show up you are just not going to win and that is what happened to us.
It seems like you are a little angry towards Manu and Tony?
No, not really. They are great regular season players it seems and they just couldn’t deliver for us. They had a bad series and that happens. This is a new season where anything can happen and you can make sure we are going to be right in the thick of things once again. We are a little tight with the cap but I’m sure we can work around it to still have a contending team. Plus they are fun guys who like to have fun and finger each others assholes.
What are your thoughts on this upcoming season?
Well i think we have a very god team coming back but i think we need a little shake up. I can't say who is coming or leaving but i think its time to let some people go and try to make it happen in a different way.
One last question Nanz before we end this. It seems that an old friend has gotten a hold of you in the past few days?
Haha Yes an old friend wrote me a letter from the Venezuelan jungle. He seems to be ok and hopefully I can convince him to leave his pack of wild Venezuelan manatees and whores to join us once gain here in LA.
Thank you very much for taking the time to sit with us and I wish you the best of luck this season.
