I'm inclined to agree with Ashes on this with a few differences. Reagan did'nt fuck up the economy. Might want to take a look at the interest rates and unemployment, inflation etc under Carter there first. Reagan pulled us out of it,I'm not sure how sound some of his economic principles are for the long haul but at that period in time it worked. Plus we had the USSR as a very real global threat at that time and he broke them. I know that was before most of you guys time but the USSR was basically Iran or Iraq under Saddam except with the firepower to back it up. marty, Clinton benefitted a lot economically by just being the sitting President during the biggest technological boom in history. Computers, the internet which enabled much more worldwide trading and business etc. We were heading into a recession before Bill's term ended though. The Enron scandal and all that crap was under Clinton. Not to mention our intelligence took a beating under him. If our intel would'nt have been gutted we may never have invaded Iraq. He did make govt. cuts but a large amount was our intel agencies. Anyway, I'm not so much repupblican as I'm anti democrat mainly because of their sorry ass behavior in the Senate and House and liberal judges making laws from the bench. The President has final say by and large but congress passes legislation and the judicial branch's respensibility isnt to make laws. I'd love a 3rd party to gain a stronghold, but neither of the other sorry parties will ever let that happen I dont think. Anyway, Barak on his own I dont think can do much damage, but if the Dems would have gotten a fillibuster proof majority I think this country would have been in trouble, and we still may be with the majority they have as is. I just hope Obama's judgement in advisors is better than the Ayers,Wright,Resco's etc. You're right, Reagan didn't fuck up the economy...in his time. You're right. He did a quick-fix to Carter's terrible, terrible job during his presidency. The lasting impact on some of Reagan's policies, though, did lead to an economic decline, which Bush Sr. inherited. (chris, this is why it "got worse" under Bush Sr. By your mentality, I can say the economy has gotten increasingly worse the last two years, where Democrats control Congress, the check writers of our Nation. Don't double standard this.) If people were generally better, some of Reagan's policies may have worked. In theory, cutting taxes for a business owner should allow said business owner to increase pay/give more benefits/give more bonuses, but due to human nature, it's only a matter of time before this idea failed. Just like communism failed in practice. Chris, foreign aid is a great thing, but to implement the scale that Obama (Not all him really, Biden too) wants to implement is NOT a great thing. It's simply too much. How does stimulating other countries markets help us right now, when we really need it? I think the figure is somewhere around $800 Billion or so. I'm all for foreign aid, but that is far, far too much. Especially in a time where we NEED to focus domestically. And how are you not worried about one party controlling the House, Senate, and being President? Do you have that much faith in Democrats? I know I don't have that much faith in either of the parties, as much as people want to blame Republicans for all of this, I say yeah blame them, but what about the Democrats? What did they do the last two years? Thank heavens they didn't get the filibuster-proof majority. I wish Obama the best and I hope he is a great president, because we need him to be, but like I said on the UOSL boards, I'm not going to hop on his dick until he actually does something. All valid points... and we can argue about this forever... but the only thing I ask is that you give Obama a chance.... and it looks like you'll give it to him... I mean, regardless of whomever we elected... anything is better than Bush right now...

My professor showed that today in class. Got plenty of laughs, except for the die hard Obama people of course.
