meh, if oakland plans on locking him which i could see them doing. it would be a great trade for them (as long as they dont move street in it).

Street is incredibly overrated.

"In a report for the Denver Post, Troy Renck reports the two teams have agreed in principle to swap Street, Gonzalez, and relief pitcher Greg Smith for Holliday."
Gonzalez is the man, I love that guy.

I'm surprised Oakland made this move. Beane is obsessed with his prospects. I like it for them though.

Colorado gets pretty good value as well.

The main reason that I'm surprised with this deal is because Holliday just doesn't seem like a Beane guy. It's strange that he's going to take a chance on Holliday being more of the coors hitter he is than the road hitter. He's a 1000+ OPS in Coors guy, and in the 800s on the road (892 this past year if I remember right). Still a really good hitter, but I'm surprised he's paying superstar price for a Coors superstar.

holliday is a STAR. he will be great for oakland. Holliday is great, but I'm really curious to see what happens to his numbers now that he's going from a drastic hitters park to a drastic pitchers park. He couldn't have gone to much more of an opposite, with the exception of Petco. Still, 140 OPS+ is big time.

I think he'll be fine... .308/.405/.486, his road numbers, are still extremely solid, and let's not forget that he played in three big time pitchers' parks in his division. Should be interesting.
But looking at the deal again, the deal seems pretty strange. Unless Beane is confident enough to believe Oakland's a playoff team, Holliday's pretty much a one year rental.

Good deal for A's if they lock up Holliday.

I think they're content with letting him go after this year and gaining the compensation picks, similar to the Sabathia deal. Their dealing more away than what the Brewers gave up for CC, though.

Arizona is a hitters park. True on Petco/Dodger Stadium though. He's sick, but he plays in Coors. That fact is always going to make me hesitate on a player, especially when the home/road splits are drastic. They don't have to be. IIRC, Helton put up a 1000 (or close to it) road OPS in one of his crazy seasons. Maybe 2000, I'll check.

Yeah, 2000 Helton put up a 1242 at home, 1074 on the road... holy shit. Wow. 977 on the road the next year, 1252 at home. Insane numbers.
