1. New Jersey Nets- The Nets come into the season as the number one team in the league. In my opinion they are the team to beat this year as they made some bold acquisitions to bolster their front court. The other day the Nets traded superstar point guard Chris Paul for one of the best big men in the league, Andrew Bynum. In the deal the nets also received Mike Dunleavy who will take the reins from Paul as the point guard for the Nets. The nets possess the best front court in the league with Oden and Bynum and a nasty tandem at the 1 and 2 of Wade and Mikey D. They take great pride in their defense, something that GM Mark Kelley has accomplished over the past few seasons. Their one fall back will be at the 3 where Jeff Green will look to be starting for them. Otherwise, if they stay healthy, I see the Nets in the finals this season.
2. Los Angeles Lakers- The Laker's run by GM Nanz “Gettin’ Jiggy with it” Huertas, was also in the news for some big trades over the past few days. After all the questionable trades between the Cavaliers and many other teams Nanz ended up with super star point guard Chris Paul, and he claims the amount he gave up was all worth it. “Chris Paul is a super star” Nanz says in an interview at the YMCA weight room, “He is one of the most efficient point guards out there, plus he can shake it, something Pargo could not do.” With a nasty tandem of Al Jefferson and Josh Smith holding down the fort, the Lakers have the front court to counter what the Nets come out with. The Laker's only weaknesses may be at the 2 and 3 where I can see the Nets, especially D wade, take over the game. It will surely be an interesting battle of two friends battling for the BBS Crown.
3. Miami Heat- There were a few teams that I could consider here at the three spot, but I think the Heat come out on top of everybody else that was being considered here. They have a well-rounded offensive threat in Rubio, Roy and newly acquired Chiriaev. They have Lamarcus Aldridge at the 5, who is a very efficient big man who puts up solid numbers each year. Their weakness is at the 4 where Paul Millsap looks to start. He is a solid producer but with the other elite teams and their amazing front courts I see the heat being hurt by their weak front court and lack of depth.
4. Dallas Mavericks- Even though the Mavericks are without a gm at the moment, they have one of the best offensive teams in the league. The successful franchise under Dave Krup has never been the same since he left but still possess some of the talent he acquired. Nenad Krstic is one of the best scoring bigs in the league. Melo and Beasley are one of the most efficient offensive threats at the 2 and 3 in the league. Point guard Luther Head is one of the most efficient guards in the league that puts up an assist/turnover ratio that is among the best. The Mavericks lack talent at the 2 to really make this team a championship contender while their defense may hold them back. Nonetheless this team is worth mentioning and should be looked at to dominate the west with the Laker's.
5. Philadelphia 76ers- The Sixers have a very good team with a bright future. They have good, young players at the 4, 3, and 1 that will be with this franchise for many seasons. Blair, DeRozan and John Wall are a nasty tandem that have been together for a few seasons and has had a lot of success. This team has a bright future and as long as Maniac is around to run it, it will stay that way. Look out for the Sixers as a huge threat come the post season.
6. New York Knicks- The Knicks have the most sought after players in the league, that is right, players. Kevin Durant and Derrick Rose are only 25 years old and are arguably the best at their position in the league. These two alone will carry the Knicks to the post season, and as long as they have these two guys they will be successful.
