that like to say things like " He is really scoring the basketball" or "They are really passing the basketball well." and similar sentences that say football or basketball instead of just ball. Trent Dilfer on Outside the Lines just elevated this bullshit to an art form by saying that "The Giants defense got off the football field on 3rd down in the 2nd half". Really? The football field? What other field were they playing on?
Maybe this just bothers me but it has gotten really annoying and the announcers sound like stuck up assholes. I guess the most annoying part of it is that it is a relatively new fad and every goddamn announcer uses it now. Stephen A. Smith has to be the biggest abuser of this. I used to like him, but now is just awful to listen to.
