Mangini fired.
Someone needed to be held accountable for the collapse. I don't think Mangini is a bad coach, but he's better suited as a defensive coordinator or secondaries coach. He just wasn't a leader of men and none of the players liked him. I don't think he was ever truly accepted by the fans either... I was never a fan of his demeanor on the sideline and in the post game news conferences. I probably would've forgiven him for all that had he actually won a big game though.
The offensive play calling throughout the season was abysmal... Schottenheimer needs to take some responsibility for this. Leon was underused for much of the season and Thomas Jones was ignored for many 3rd and short situations.
An anonymous Jet (probably Coles) said this in the Star Ledger:
Couldn't agree more...

I don't think it's Coles... it's probably someone on the O-Line... because wasn't he complaining that the offense no longer was running through him instead it was running through Favre?

It is Coles, he is the only person vocally pissed off about the Jets getting Brett. He would say shit like that. They should have ran the ball more.

Yeah, but why would he say the Jets offense ran through him last season and now he's saying the Jets offense should have been run through the ground "like they were built to do." Makes no sense to me.

Worst part of all this is that Tannenbaum is so far up Favre's ass it's not funny. He's expressing absolutely no urgency to hear a decision from Favre (just said he'd be fine with Favre waiting until after the Super Bowl or later). Favre with a new coach would be so awful. No doubt, the coach would cater to Favre and he'd have all the say in the world of what kind of offense he wants, but the thing is, Brett Favre has no mind for how an offense should be run. He plays Madden out there. I'm praying he retires so that a new coach can actually do his thing instead of coming in and working around what Favre wants for one season. He has a stranglehold on management and had a stranglehold on the playbook this year (sorry, but Brad Smith is actually a football player, and Washington could probably have gone 250+ yards on screens this year but Favre doesn't believe in anything but throwing the ball hard and far). I'd do anything for the fucker to retire.
I'd also cut the entire secondary aside from Revis and Rhodes and make Rhodes a backup. You know who'd be nice to have? Vilma. Hey, if your coach is a season away from being fired, not always a good idea to dump a very good LB just because he doesn't fit the system. So Elam fit the system at OLB more than Vilma would've making plays in the middle for the Jets. OK, Vilma doesn't blitz and doesn't stuff the run, but he would've been the best coverage LB and tackler they had this year. He would've been PERFECT for them this year. Barton's dead weight. Harris isn't anywhere near as good as they thought he was. Pace is good but went quiet and really needs to have a bigger role in pass rush. The D-line, I mean, I don't even know what to make of it. I thought it was great and it just disappeared. But I think the offense is in amazing shape and needs a coach that will get better use of its versatility/tons of options. Favre was basically passing to Coles or Cotchery on all of his passing plays unless they weren't open. His best moments were when he got guys like Keller and Stucky involved. I just want a different QB pretty badly. I don't want a guy who says he doesn't know if he wants surgery, and I don't want a guy who needs surgery at 39, and I don't want the dumbest fucking QB I've ever watched play coming back to QB the Jets.

To me, it's unfathomable that Tannenbaum is going to hire a new coach in like a week to ten days and then give Favre at least another month to decide if he's coming back. What the fuck? So the new coach has no idea if he's targeting a QB in the draft/FA, has no idea who to design his offense around, and is gonna let Favre, who was the worst player in football the last six weeks, who is 39 and needs surgery, take his sweet time deciding if he'll grace the Jets with his presence. That's gonna suffocate the new coach and of course Favre will trump the guy anyway if he comes back.

Cowher would probably play a huge role in player personnel decisions.

don't be surprised if Parcells goes to the Jets.. he has a clause in his contract where he can leave if the current owner of the team sells the team which he reportedly has.

I would really be shocked if Parcells left so soon, but who knows. I really want Cowher. he possibility Bill Parcells might leave the Miami Dolphins after only one season surfaced just as the team he rebuilt earned a playoff berth for the first time since 2001. Parcells' contract allows him to leave after one season and still receive the $12 million remaining on his four-year deal if the team is sold, owner Wayne Huizenga confirmed. The sale of a majority share to New York real estate billionaire Stephen Ross is expected to be completed shortly after the season. Parcells would then have 30 days to leave without sacrificing the money due him in the final three years of his contract. Surprising Miami plays host to Baltimore in a first-round playoff game Sunday. The Dolphins are 11-5, a dramatic turnaround from last year's 1-15 record. The existence of the contract clause giving the 67-year-old Parcells a lucrative way out was first reported by ESPN. Huizenga and Ross said they hope Parcells will stay. Coach Tony Sparano smiled but declined to comment Monday when asked whether he has any leverage with Parcells that might keep his boss from departing. The Dolphins' revival began a year ago when Huizenga hired Parcells as executive vice president of football operations. Parcells managed similar turnarounds as a coach, taking over losing teams with the Giants, Patriots, Jets and Cowboys and transforming them into winners. Parcells has a history of being on the move, and he has held three jobs in the past two years. He quit coaching after the 2006 season with Dallas and was a TV network analyst in 2007. He spent four years with the Cowboys, three with the Jets and four with the Patriots. Ross bought 50 percent of the Dolphins last winter and is expected to soon exercise an option to purchase up to 95 percent. and I just read Cowher rejected an offer from the Browns to be their head coach(as some of you may or may not know he played for them back in the day and I think he was their Special Teams coach too) and said he had no intentions to coach anywhere in 2009 for any team.. so who knows.

So do I get 1 or 2 RC's for this? I forgot to mention this to Spencer... I think if he won't allow it for this season for next season to make 1st place 2 RCs 2nd place 1 RC 3rd place .5 RC this gives the championship game and the 3rd game some meaning and a reason to play for, in my opinion but it's basically up to Spencer.
