Kareem Joffer
position: Forward/Center
age: 19
height: 6'11
weight: 221lbs
Current Team: University of Connecticut
Prospect Grades:
B D C C+ B- A
Strengths:
Exceptional athlete. Has a thin frame with long arms. Great quickness and leaping ability for someone his size. Rumored to have a near 40 inch vertical. Very fluid and runs the floor like a guard. An alley-oop waiting to happen. Exciting in transition. Unselfish with decent passing skills but definitely not a play maker. Solid face up game. His quickness and ball handling skills allow him to blow by bigger players. Likes to finish with authority at the rim. Good shot blocker due to leaping ability. Solid perimeter defender that has the quickness and length to stay in front of opposing wing players. Disruptive in the passing lanes. Aggressive on the glass and will pull down some impressive rebounds. Good offensive rebounder. Very active with a non stop motor.
Weaknesses:
Natural feel for the game but relies heavily on his athletic ability. Needs to bulk up. Not very strong and gets pushed around by heavier players. Struggles guarding the post against wide bodies. Tends to lose position for defensive rebounds. Tries to out jump everyone rather than blocking out. Shies away from shooting the basketball. Often passes up open looks. Decent shooting mechanics but lacks confidence. Ball handling is impressive for someone 6'11, but can try to do too much and will turn it over. Overly aggressive on defense. Doesn't rack up as many blocked shots as he should. Lacks awareness at times. Foul prone.
Notes:
Family immigrated to Canada when he was 3 years old. Mother competed internationally in track and field. Father is a former CFL
player. Grew up playing soccer but switched sports after big growth spurt. Started playing basketball later than most prospects. Potential is there but needs time and good coaching.
