B- C- C B+ C+ A
Alastair is the son of a Dutch politician and one of the wealthiest Entrepreneurs in all of the Caribbean. His paternal lineage has boasted tall men all the way back to the 17th century. Alastair is known to be one of the better young shot blockers in the world. At the ABCD camp a couple years ago he broke the gym's window when he swatted Hermin Schonhoven's 3 point shot out of the building. He once had a game where he recorded 18 blocks including swatting one players layup 5 times in a row. However outside shot blocking De Groot is a pretty raw player right now. One of his weakness is his frame. He relies solely on his amazing wingspan and jumping ability. His lack of strength really hurts him. The biggest problem that GM's will have with De Groot though is that many scouts really don't know what they are going to get with him.
Ghanian scout Jungle St. John was one of the least optimistic scouts who watched De Groot this year. "I really wasn't wild about De Groot to be honest with you. While his shot blocking abilities are unparalleled by few he only really showed any mental and physical toughness when he is blocking shots. Alastair knows that he is only on the court to block shots, and when the opportunities don't come he really becomes a liability. I must of seen him look more at his coach during the game for fear of being benched then focusing on what was happening in front of him. That would scare me if I was a coach on draft day."
However, the same sentiments were not shared by former New Canaan High School great and Warriors Scout Skoal "The Grizzly" McKodiak. "Really watching this guy I think worst case scenario would be a BBS version of Chris Bosh. He has a promising mid-range game and although his jumping game is not designed for a high power offensive game right now I see promise in it. He has better coordination then most big men. Confidence is a problem but I think it can be easily adjusted as he does show a desire to succeed. Defintley worth a mid-late lotto gamble for any team IMO"
