1. SAC - Iarere Ballantyne SG 6'5'' 200 18 B B- C C C- A
At this point that Kings need someone who can bring some hope to their feeble franchise. Ballantyne should be the unquestioned go-to guy and should be a franchise player to build around.. While his defense is a little weak entering the BBS his offensive prowess should make up for whatever lack of defense he may encounter.
Grade: A
2. GST - Azuolas Kanauskas SF 7'0'' 225 20 C+ B+ C C C- A
Kanauskas has been drawing comparisons to the likes of Chiraiev and Donatas with the body type/skill set he possesses. The Warriors have a roster with two have been stars that can still play. The combination of Johnson, Amare, and Kanauskas may be enough for the Warriors to compete in the West.
Grade: A+
3. CHI - Zack Swanson PF 6'9'' 241 20 A- C+ C C+ C+ A
The Bulls already have one of the best young cores in the league, but their glaring weakness is lack of big men who can actually play big. GM Play should be very happy that the best big man in the draft fell into his lap here at 3. Expect Swanson to bring instant offense down low to compliment the likes of Nocedal, Garrison, Donatas, Thompson, and Boynton.
Grade: A+
4. POR - Bishop Daniels PG 6'3'' 198 21 C C+ B- A- C- A
The Trailblazers already have a future superstar in St. Cloud, but not much other than that. The Blazers could have gone a few directions here but decided to pick Daniels here after he drew comparisons to Gary Payton. While he is expected to be a top 8 player in the draft, taking him at 4 may have been a reach.
Grade: A-
5. DAL - Jared McGahee SG 6'4'' 220 20 B+ C+ C C+ C- A
McGahee is an impressive young talent that does a lot of things well. While Dallas GM Chris may be worried about McGahee's limited upside he should be able to blossom into a potential franchise player.
Grade: A-
6. UT - Flavijus Stankevicius C 7'2'' 255 21 B- D+ C+ C+ C A
Utah already has most positions covered by youngsters, most of whom can play well. Flavijus was selected based on the upside he has been seen to possess. Utah's weakness is clearly a lack of a go to guy, which Stankevicius will almost certainly not become. However, he should fit in as a backup C for the time being.
Grade: B+
7. LAL - Chandler Maloney SG 6'2'' 182 20 C B C+ B C- A
Interesting pick here by GM Nanz. Maloney was not on many team's lottery radars, but you certainly can't argue with B outside/defense coming in as a rookie. With Carrington and Duk in the backcourt in addition to Maloney already expect one to be on the move for the Lakers to get the big man they desperately need.
Grade B+
8. MEM- FORFEITED- Sorry boss.
9. CLE - Sediq King SF 6'6'' 228 20 B C B- C C+ A
King is a very interesting prospect who should be able to have solid minutes this season for the Cavs as they try to build a succesful team to compete in the powerful east. Weak defense could be a liability.
Grade: B
10. BOS - Myles Taylor PG 6'2'' 205 20 C- C B B- C A
Boston already has some stars to build around or tear down through depending on the route new GM C.C. takes but picking Taylor here was a great move. One of the main reasons Boston failed to make 40 wins last year was poor performance at the PG position. Taylor won't make the fancy offensive pay but is a very stable player who may turn into a BBS Rondo, if all goes well May have also been a reach at 10.
Grade: B
11. TOR - Adalberto Navarro SG 6'6'' 210 19 B B- C+ C- C A
Toronto should be happy with this pick at 11 (technically 10) despite the horrendous defense. B/B- is sick and like Navarro, the offense should be able to cover the liability he may become on defense.
Grade: A-
12. POR - Frank McPhereson C 7'2'' 238 21 B- D C- B- B- A
Nice for Portland to get a big man here with very solid big man ratings this late in the lotto. This was an area of concern for the Blazers and they hope McPherson can bring some stability to the frontcourt.
Grade: B+
13. CLE - Storm Warren C 6'11'' 230 22 C B+ D+ B+ B- B
Warren is another one of those big guys that plays away from the rim. However, can also play defense and can bang down low for rebounds. While his upsides may be limited I really like this pick at 13 (12)
