Touching upon what Martinez started, this was a somewhat iffy draft coming into the offseason. No real #1's or stud players, but lots of decent value, especially in the later lotto regions. This is where most busts occur, so lets see if that holds true for 2018.
7. Clifford Sutton - San Antonio Spurs
B C+ D B- C A
B+ C+ D C+ C+ A
Sutton had some nice ratings going into the TC, but his lack of defense coming out may hurt his value in SA. The boost in inside scoring and rebounding is a start, but an overall disappointing TC from this big man. With players like Goodger, Chau, and Walker, don't expect this guy to see much playing time.
Overall Grade : B-
8. Cameron Carter - Denver Nuggets
A- C+ C C B- A
A- C+ C C- B B
Looking like a stud scorer from the get-go, Carter's TC was less than impressive. Although his stellar scoring stayed so, his lack of defense was disappointing, as was his drop in potential. He is looking like a starter in the rebuilding Denver, who will hope for a better TC out of him next year.
Overall Grade: B-
9. Max Bates - Los Angeles Lakers
C+ B+ C- C+ B+ B
C+ A- C C+ A- B
A relative unknown on draft day, GM Nanz took a chance taking Bates. With no notes to go on or draft profile, he was a shot in the dark. However, he looks very impressive from his first TC and we can probably expect more from him in the future.
Overall Grade: A
10. Ivan Cann - Minnesota Timberwolves
B D D A- C+ B
B D+ D+ A- B- B
Cann came into the TC with very promising ratings as a 20 year old center, and the future replacement for 35-year-old Nenad Krstic. However, his TC was...lets say confusing. While he increased in rebounding, GM Ashes would've liked to see improvement in either defense or inside scoring rather than outside scoring and handles.
Overall Grade: B
11. Jorge Victoriano - Phoenix Suns (to Seattle Supersonics)
B- C+ C C+ C- A
C+ B- C+ C+ C- B
After being traded to Phoenix in the John Wall deal, it is looking like maybe Blue was smart to deal him. While his handles and outside shooting increase was nice, the drop in inside and potential was not so nice. Not a bust persay, but we will have to see in the long run.
Overall Grade: B-
12. Broderick Kurland - Atlanta Hawks
C+ B D+ B- C A
C+ B+ C- B- C+ B
Kurland had a solid TC. Increasing his outside shooting, handles, and rebounding was very important to rookie GM cp3. Now if only the rest of him looked as good.
Overall Grade: B+
13. Cory Highlander - Houston Rockets
B+ B- C C C B
B+ B- C C+ C+ A
Highlander's stats leads me to believe he should be a high scoring center in the league. It would've been nice to see his scoring go up, and I'm sure Gregg would agree with me on that point. The only lottery player to increase his potential, he should get some nice TC's in the near future.
