Three seasons ago, the Jazz were a 60 win team loaded with promising youth. Now, they hardly scratch out 40 and have two terrible contracts weighing down the franchise. What went wrong? Is it all Andrew's fault, or did TCs do him in? What would you have done differently?
Definitely his fault. I've been as guilty as anybody for sitting on youth, and I think that's what did him in. I don't remember the exact specifics of the deal but I remember Spencer saying that he offered him Beasley for Tyler and Galvan? That's when those guys were rookies/2nd year players... he didn't capitalize on the opportunity. He probably got greedy and thought that eventually Tyler and Galvan would develop into great players so we wouldn't need Beasley. The Ivan contract was dumb as well... he had the ability to offer more money for the first year than anybody... and the first year of the contract is what matters the most in FBB (stupid I know). There was no reason he needed to offer with 12.5% increases through the 5 or 6 years after... he could've gotten him back with no increases. I think he'll learn from the mistakes he made though.
Andy's back and wants a team. When he left, he was one of the most valued members of BBS. But he left abruptly without giving reason and was still hanging out on other similar online forums. Is it anyone's business to blame him for leaving BBS in the manner he did, or should he be welcomed back with no questions asked? Does he have to prove himself?
Bring him back without any hesitation. Besides his bizarre disappearance, he had a great track record in BBS and everybody likes him. Hopefully the two new GMs step it up but otherwise, Andy's a great option on the WL.
Chris Martinez took over a great situation in Dallas, and has seemingly been in cruise control mode ever since. He's had his share of good draft picks but has never gone for the kill or even cashed in on his youth. Do you credit him for the job he has done, or is being in the Contract Year after inheriting a great situation a sign that he isn't doing a great job with his roster?
Well he hasnt done anything to fuck up... but if he was actually doing a good job, there's no reason why he should be in his contract year now. Spencer set him up perfectly. He's capitalized on the high draft picks but he has the opportunity to use those pieces to get stars and he hasn't done it.
Grade the offseasons of the following teams:
Seattle Supersonics: B-. Could be alot higher had he dealt his youth for pieces to put around Rose... I think he had the perfect opportunity to put together another championship contending team. Some of his young guys (Vic and Machata most notably) lost some value from average TC's, so that window might've past him by.
New York Knicks: B+. Probably would be A- if it weren't for the Al Jeff trade... it's a fair deal but he's gambling on picks and probably gave up a chance to be the top team in the East. He dealt Rose at the perfect time and got a really nice return.
Memphis Grizzlies: B. It's tough to pass on a chance to get Lance Stephenson, but don't mess with success, right? This grade could easily change as the season goes, for better or worse, who knows yet...
Orlando Magic: B-. Had arguably the best team in the league before habes realized he fucked up his finances. He had to deal LeBron for way below face value in order to get himself out of the mess. I liked the Lance for Nocedal+++ trade alot, but he probably should have waited to make sure of his cap situation before making the move for LeBron.
Golden State Warriors: C+. Still has a chance at 40 if he can get the most out of his players but I was surprised he didn't jump on that chance to get Kemba when he had all that cap space. I liked the Deng deal for him. I don't know what was out there for Azoulas but he should've moved him.
Who wins BBS this year and why?
Lakers. Probably the easy pick but they'll have a relatively easy road (compared to East teams) to the Finals and that Bynum trade solidified them as the best team in the L. Ya dig
Take your pick...please judge TALENT only:
DeJuan Blair or Derrick Rose
Rose. Studly PG that can do it all. I think he can do a better job of carrying a team on his back than Blair can. Can't go wrong with either though.
Corey Fisher or Matias Nocedal
I'll actually go with Nocedal. Both are great players but Nocedal is a prolific scorer that will give you 10+ assists and with just around 2 turnovers a game... that's rare. I'll take a great PG over a great player from another position more often than not
Delvon Roe or Tyler Hansbrough
Roe. His steals and blocks are invaluable. Not a great scorer but he's great from the line and usually shoots a decent %. I didn't know Hansbrough was that good though lolol.
Hahn Owens or Karron Johnson
Hahn is a better number one option for a team that needs scoring but I like Karron better in general. He does everything... he can play a variety of different roles.
Rodney Stuckey or Hasheem Thabeet
Thabeet. Blocks are everything
Ebener or Mark
Ebener but it's very close
Jordan or Skillz
Jordan
Ducky or Blue
Me
Pig or DJ
Pig
Assemble the best starting lineup of players making under 10 mil a year that aren't on rookie contracts.
Chau
Ibaka
McDermott (couldn't think of anyone else)
Strickland
Beabouis
And, of course, call someone out in 50 insulting words or less.
New GM's, step up. Jay, we don't care that you don't care.
