End of Season Power Rankings
People who entered: jah, scott, dj , cj, galo, derwin, cc, steve, greg, nanz, chris, skillz
1. (1) Dallas Mavericks (59-23)—13 points
The Mavericks score a lot of points and win a lot of games. At 59-23, they had far and away the best regular season out of any team. But…..they are down 2-1 against the 8th seeded Warriors. Does anyone else find it funny that Chris is criticizing people for not having playoff success? It’s like Galo telling someone that they overpaid for a free agent.
2. (9) Orlando Magic (53-29)—26 points
Jumping from 9 to 2, the Magic hit a hot streak after the midseason power rankings. While the Magic are strong both offensively and defensively, it looks like it’s now or never for the Magic though, as Dwight is getting older and they are looking at a cap number over 90 when the season ends. Here’s a fun fact: Monta Ellis and Dwight Howard will combine to make 55.8 million dollars next season!
3. (3) Los Angeles Lakers (54-28)—29 points
The Lakers set themselves up well for consistent regular season success with the sick trio of Davidson/LQR/Beasley. Unfortunately, they also set themselves up for consistent playoff letdowns by sticking Herb Pope at center. 1-6 vs. the Timberwolves this year? Beasley hurt? The Lakers might be packing their bags soon.
4. (14) Indiana Pacers (53-29)—40 points
Jumping from 14 to 4 is extremely impressive, as is Serge Ibaka’s absolutely ridiculous defensive numbers. Being down 2-1 in a series against the rebuilding Knicks? Not so much. While they’ve been playing better lately, Nova’s overrated duo of Ty Walker and Corey Fisher won’t bring the Pacers a title. Fisher might be the most inefficient “star” in the league and Ty Walker is no Greg Oden (a player who Nova “prefers”)
5. (8) Philadelphia 76ers (52-30)—56 points
Snooze fest. The sixers are really starting to bore me. Same deal every year: 50+ win season, 2nd or 3rd round exit. Blair is ridiculous but Maniac has yet to get the Sixers over the hump.
6. (2) Detroit Pistons (52-30)—57 points
Jay is an oddity. He has a hate/hate relationship with his team. He hates all of his players, but hates trading them too. In terms of talent, a very good, but not great team IMO.
7. (12) Miami Heat (49-33)—71 points
Greg Oden had a sick season. , The Heat made a good trade, I get it! The GM’s ranked the Heat 7th, as did I. Still a good team who I don’t see contending for a title, sorry Eb!
8. (10) Memphis Grizzlies (45-37)—77 points
The Memphis Cripples are starting to play a bit better lately now that they are healthy. Their core of Raymond Felton, Martell Webster, Sediq King, and Ronny Turiaf pales in comparison to the other teams in the top 10.
9. (4) Milwaukee Bucks (48-34)—88 points
The Milwaukee Ducks somehow finished the season 48-34 despite rebuilding. Starting a Glen Davis and Andrew Bogut frontcourt, Duck-Young Bak might be the most underratedly ridiculous player in BBS.
10. (5) Boston Celtics (46-36)—103 points
CC’s acquiring of Lebron James this off-season was a great move, but his GM skills don’t even come close to his best attribute: sports writing.
Just missing out:
11. Rebels
12. Knicks
13. Spurs
