Potential BBS Ratings: B- D+ D+ B- B+ A
Brody Masterson had opted out of his final two years at Arkansas and has declared for the BBS draft. Masterson was nicknamed "The Bear" for his ferocious tenacity under the hoop. Masterson was 2nd in the country with 11.2 RPG and should be the best rebounder coming out of this draft class.
Strengths- Masterson is a big scary dude. He loves to go mudding, shoot rifles and pack monster lips when he isn't running the basketball court. Guy is as strong as an ox and has a huge wingspan. He dominates the boards. As one BBS scout explains "It is just hard for guys to get rebounds against him because it is the equivalent of trying to out-rebound a tree." Masterson uses intimidation in order to gain an advantage on the court. BBS Scout Eugene Pylpchenko stated that "Guy's become afraid of him due to his high energy and size." Masterson has decent touch around the glass however it is nothing spectacular. Pretty solid post defender and especially well when guarding players as the same physique as his own. Pretty young and scouts do believe he has the potential to be a very good player in the BBS. Surprisingly a very decent free throw shooter.
Weaknesses- Right now the negatives somewhat outweigh the positives which is somewhat normal for most young big men. Masterson has pretty lackluster handles and won't wow anyone with his passing ability, or lack there of. Due to this he mainly plays back to the basket where most of his offensive power comes from. Very slow. Not Bobby Hill slow but he has to be down in the bottom tier of this draft class with his speed. Doesn't jump too high. Mediocre to poor shot blocker but not terrible. Anywhere from 1 to 2 BPG in the prime of his career wouldn't be a reach. Can be prone to foul trouble if he gets frustrated but he can keep his cool most of the time.
Outlook-Very interesting prospect to say the least. Has the potential to be a Top 5 pick in the BBS draft. Most of his inabilities on the basketball court are fixable and he shows the ability to learn. Won't ever have a consistent 15 footer but should be an offensive banger in the paint. The key to Masterson's success will be in the paint drawing fouls as his free throw shooting is surprisingly very good. Good chance he will flirt with the league leaders in rebounds with starter minutes his rookie year. With offensive touch and time he has the potential to be a very good ball player
