Araki Chiba
position: Center/Forward
age: 20
height: 7'2
weight: 230lbs
Current Team: Mitsubishi Diamond Dolphins(JBL)
Prospect Grades:
C D B- A- C+ B
Strengths:
Big time shot blocking presence. Tireless in his efforts on the defensive end. Will block shots on and off the ball. Possesses excellent defensive instincts. Has the ability to step out and guard smaller players on the perimeter. Post defense is very strong. Has a unique quickness/strength combination for his size. Extremely tough to score on. Help defense is also very good. He's usually in the right position and has the athleticism and length to make up for most mistakes. Passing skills are excellent for a big. Will initiate fast breaks and often has plays run through him. Will find the open shooter and consistently hits team mates cutting to the basket.
Weaknesses:
Focused so much on his defensive ability that he has virtually no offensive game. Looks uncomfortable trying to score the rock.
Shooting stroke is decent but he has zero confidence in his ability to knock down shots. Looks to pass the ball as soon as he gets it. Rebounding is inconsistent. Grabs a decent number of boards but should pull down a lot more.
Notes:
Because of his size, he has been taught to believe that defense is all that matters. Has very good athletic ability for a 7 footer but has never been encouraged to develop his offensive game. Has room to grow but his previous coaching may hinder his desire or ability to improve his offensive instincts and skills. Anyone who drafts him will have to deal with his current club. They are seeking a buyout of approx 3 million dollars.
