Overview
Yates is in his senior year at Houston and has emerged as one of the most intriguing big men in college out of nowhere.
He could have been drafted top-10 after his junior year, but stayed for his senior year after making a promise to his mother after she paid for him to join the team as a walk-on as a freshman.
The Cougars gave him a scholarship after their overweight 6'6" 245 pound Yates sprouted four inches in his freshman year.
Yates is incredibly loyal and proved it by turning down all transfer requests after the Cougars gave him a scholarship.
Yates is averaging 24.6 ppg, 11.7 rpg, 4.4 apg, 1.6 bpg and is turning heads of every important scout out there.
Some love him, others are skeptical due to his playing for a mid-major without any major wins or tournament berths. His teammates are terrible.
Strengths
Yates is strong in every area.
He can hit the occasional three pointer, he has great post moves, he blocks the occasional shot and is an exceptional passer for his size. Yates is the leading assist man on his team (as well as nearly every other category) and is top-5 in his conference.
Yates will start right away and if he has any upside whatsoever, he could be legendary.
Weaknesses
He is good in every area, but will never be among the best at anything.
He could have hidden potential due to his late spurt, but because of his conference, scouts think that we've seen him at his best.
He is an average post defender, but will definitely be good enough to not be a liability.
Outlook
On intrigue alone, he should be a top-5 pick. If he has even an ounce of potential, he could be special.
