Cameron Williams
6'4"
SG
202lbs
22
Northwestern
BBS Ratings: C+ B C B C A
Strengths
Williams is basically a cookie-cutter shooting guard. He can create his shot off the dribble, but never forces the issue. He will always hit the open man if double teamed. His form is beautiful, it reminds a lot of scouts of Wesley Person. His mid range game is money, leave him open and it is going in. Cameron isn't much of a crossover artist, but is excellent at exploiting holes in the defense to finish at the rim.
Defensively, makes his living not letting plays develop. His lateral quickness is not the greatest, but he has been top 3 in the Big 10 in steals for the last 3 seasons.
Weaknesses
He's a 6'4" shooting guard who will not impress you athletically. He's only dunked twice in a game. As mentioned earlier, his lateral quickness results in him getting taken off the dribble with success quite frequently. Cameron was frequently the best player on his team, but never the most vocal.
Outlook
Cameron Williams is basically what you expect from a shooting guard. He scores, he defends, he isn't a ball hog, etc. On the downside, he lacks versatility and his game is unoriginal. But many scouts believe he compares favorably to a James Harden.
That isn't to say that Williams isn't a special story. As a high school player, he put up consistent, but not gaudy numbers, and even lead his team to a state championship appearance in his junior season. Only offered a scholarship to low D-1 schools, Cameron excelled in the classroom enough to get a scholarship to Northwestern. He immediately burst onto the Big 10 scene, winning Freshman of the Year as a walk-on (thanks to some chance injuries). Now in his junior year, Williams is almost a lock for Big 10 player of the year and a candidate for Player of the Year.
He should go in the top 10, low risk/high reward type of player.
