BBS Ratings: C+ B+ B C C+ A
Strengths
Offense. It's very obvious when you see Alvarez's game, he's a special offensive player. You don't see many shooters like Diego, let alone those that stand 6'10". His turn around jumper is his signature move, and you aren't stopping it. He has a 34" vertical leap, and he uses most of it on his jump shot. The awkward lefty stroke and the consistent release point make him an absolute nightmare for players more comfortable operating in the post.
The thing that makes Alvarez special is his passing ability. He is the true definition of a point forward. If he was about 8" shorter, he'd be the best point guard prospect in this draft. His court vision is that good. Players absolutely love playing with him.
Weaknesses
Defense. Strength. There really isn't anything elaborate about it. Alvarez can put up buckets, but he will give up buckets as well. He's too slow to slide over to small forward, but not strong enough to stop elite power forwards. An NBA weight program can add a few pounds, but his frame is not built to be a traditional power forward. You'd think someone who could jump like him would be able to block shots. NOPE. He has no timing whatsoever.
Outlook
Think Dirk with court vision. Alvarez is a guy capable of putting up 20+/8/5 in his prime. Many power forwards in BBS are back to the basket players such as Josh Smith, Derrick Favors, and Dejaun Blair. Alvarez is the complete opposite.
His charisma is unmatched. He lights up a room when he enters and has completely wowed scouts in one-on-one interviews. This guy should go top 5, and could even challenge for the #1 pick.
