Note:Grades taken into account their TCs obviously.
1. Atlanta - Shelley Cruise SG 6'5'' 220 20
Pre TC: B+ B+ B- D C+ A
Post TC: A- A- B D+ C+ A
On draft day, the hawks surprised everyone by selecting Shelley Cruise first. Rory or QAJ probably should have gone #1, however after an eventful TC, Mr. Cruise is starting to look really promising. Defense is always gonna be a liability, but he has the potential to pour in 30 a game. Actually one of the more solid post TC picks.
Grade: A-
2. Denver - Rory Davis PF 6'10'' 235 20
A- C- D+ B- C A
A- C- D+ B+ C+ A
Another pick that was questioned by many. People were saying Denver should have taken QAJ at this spot instead of Rory. But after a strong training camp for Rory, those people shut up. Rory is showing glimpses of an Amare Stoudemire type player. Although we haven't seen him play a game yet, he is bound to be a great player.
Grade: A
3. New Jersey - Qussam Al-Jeddha PG 6'3'' 180 20
B- C A- C+ C- A
B- C A- C+ D+ A
I have to admit, even when I picked Rory, I started questioning myself if I had made the right decision because QAJ was a perfect fit for my offense. With his TC in the bag, people aren't so high on QAJ anymore. I still like QAJ and I still think he'll be a good player. So although his TC didn't go the way mark had hoped, this was still a very good pick for the Nets, so I'm gonna still give him a somewhat nice grade for a piss poor DC.
Grade: B-
4. New Orleans - Terrence Melling SG 6'3'' 172 21
B C+ C B D+ A
B B- C B D A
3 SGs in a row, but who was the best pick and who will turn out to be the best player? You could make an argument for all these players, because they all had nice TCs. You could argue Melling had the weakest TC. And being an undersized SG and a shitty rebounder, doesn't help his value either. Solid pick, nothing special.. yet.
Grade: C+
5. New Jersey - Derrick Thompson SG 6'6'' 217 23
B B C- C C A
B B C- C+ C+ A
I wasn't loving this pick at first. I know Derrick had nice notes, and is an amazing scorer. But being 23 with C defense usually is a big turn off. However after a strong TC, Derrick is starting too look like the kind of player marty wants. Good pick so far.
Grade: B-
6. Seattle - Renaldo McFadden SG 6'6'' 225 22
B C+ C+ B C A
B+ C+ C+ B+ C A
I loved this pick for Seattle. Aar should have kept Renaldo. I'm pissed because I had the opportunity to get McFadden, but blew it. Raptors have themselves one of the better picks, in my eyes, from this draft. I love his game. McFadden was the top player on my list of these 3 SGs prior to the draft/TC, and obviously still is.
Grade: A-
7. Toronto - Simon Ben-Ephraim C 7'1'' 255 19
B C C- B- C+ A
B C C B+ C+ A
The raptors definitely had a sexy draft. They snagged two guys that were pretty high on my board. Good picking and trading by dj. Simon had a tremendous first TC, and is only 19 years old. With a couple strong TCs, everybody will know Simon and will start doing what Simon says.
Grade: A-
8. Denver - Baek Hyun Moon C 7'1'' 280 21
B D+ D+ C B A
B D+ D+ C+ B+ B
Nothing special with this pick, but the Nuggets fill in a need at Center. Moon may not turn out to be a great defender, but his offense and defense will land him a starting role. Moon had a nice first TC.
Grade: B
9. New York - Julius Jackson PF 6'10'' 250 21
B- C- D+ A- B B
B- C- D+ A- B B
Outlawz will be the first to tell you that he went out on a limb with this pick. Sometimes taking risks will pan out handsomely, other times you'll regret decisions potentially like this one. Julius still has good ratings for a rookie and still has time to improve. But I didn't like this pick much before draft, and I like it even less now.
Grade: C-
10. Seattle - Hakin Alexander PG 5'8'' 150 20
C B B+ C+ F A
C B B+ C+ F B
I won't lie; I loved this pick for aar. And I appreciate GMs who do anything to get the guy they want in a draft. Unfortunately, sometimes overpaying for a single player can turn out to be detrimental towards your team. It's hard to judge a player this early, but with Hakin's small size, he's going to need much betters TCs than this. Not a good pick so far, and a bad trade.
Grade: C-
11. New York - Jens Weissmuller SF 6'8'' 220 19
C C B B B A
C C B A- B A
Jenn really should have been the player taken at 9 (and Jackson at 11 if anything). A very good redemption pick for outlawz. Although is offense will probably never be a threat in BBS, the rest of his game is well polished. And if he continues having TCs like this, he'll be a perfect utility player. I like this one for outlawz.
Grade: B+
12. Toronto - Evan Hagan PG 5'10'' 178 22
C+ B+ C+ B+ D- B
C+ A- C+ B+ D- B
After 2 great moves by the Raptors, this one has me scratching my head a little more. Raptors needed some insurance at PG, but they should have gone with Mason Purify here (or traded down). Don't get me wrong here, he's still a solid player who should be serviceable for DJ, but I'm just not feeling this one.
Grade: C+
13. Las Vegas - Byron Hasty SF 6'7'' 205 20
C+ B- B- C+ C+ B
B- B B- B- C+ B
I originally took Hasty because I wanted the best player, but I decided to go with Moon instead for positional reasons. I'm very surprised Byron fell this far. I thought his notes were extremely favorable. Clearly his B scouted potential rating scared some people off. Although it's early, play could end up with a steal here.
