1. Ivan Chiriaev SF 34 B+ B C+ B- C+ D
$26,789,128 $30,137,769 $33,904,990 $37,041,756
for a 4 year total of $127,873,643
Possibly the worst contract in the history of fbb, this contract has killed the Utah Jazz franchise. Ivan was a stud in his day but he was never a top 10 player that deserved this type of contract. It wouldn’t have been bad to overpay him, but getting this contract on the downside of his career ruined any chance of a title for the Jazz in the last 3 years and will continue to for the next 3.
2. Jack Creamer PF 27 B C- D- A- A C
$14,062,500 $15,625,000 $17,187,500 $18,750,000 $20,312,500 $21,875,000
for a 6 year total of $107,812,500
I never realized how bad this contract was till yesterday. I tried finding someone to swing Creamer to if I took him a deal with Skillz and couldn’t without adding some good compensation. Overpaid and overrated Creamer has the looks of Darko in his prime but doesn’t do anything as well. If he improves some more he won’t be as hard to move, but someone will eventually take him off of skillz hands.
3. Blake Griffin PF 30 B C D B+ A- C
$14,892,500 $16,381,750 $17,871,000 $19,360,250 $20,849,500 $22,338,750
for a 6 year total of $111,693,750
Griffin is a good player but his new contract is awful. Giving a contract out like this will keep a team from losing the player to a one year max, but the later years of the contract will make that a risk worth taking. Griffin didn’t even average 20ppg on a bad Bulls team last year.
4. Filipe Jatobá SF 23 B- A- C A B B
$11,509,375 $12,660,313 $13,811,250 $14,962,188 $16,113,125 $17,264,063
for a 6 year total of $86,320,314
He may be 23 and have B scouted potential, but his career high is 21 points per game. If he hit FA he would have likely gotten at least one idiotic max offer, but the fact remains this guy doesn’t come close to simming to his ratings. He may be movable for the next couple of seasons while he is young, but he unless he has some hidden potential or gets the MP he will be too big of a negative to take on in any trade.
5. Luol Deng SF 34 B+ B C B+ C D
$19,000,000 $19,000,000 $19,000,000 $19,000,000
for a 4 year total of $76,000,000
Going off this year’s preseason, it looks like age has finally caught up with Deng. He wasn’t close to being the same player he was for the last decade and is nowhere near the contract he has. It is a good thing Outlawz didn’t offer any increases on this contract or else it would be getting very ugly now.
6. Hasheem Thabeet C 32 C+ D+ D+ A- B+ C
$15,750,000 $17,325,000 $18,900,000 $20,475,000
for a 4 year total of $72,450,000
Anyone who has had Thabeet lately knows he is one of the most underrated players in the league. Unfortunately, no one is going to find this out because it is going to be very difficult for blue to move him. Two seasons ago I only found two teams who even had interest in Thabeet because he was on a big two year deal. He is now two years older and has a contract that is two year longer. Getting fair value out of this elite shotblocker will be tough to find.
7. Gerald Green SG 32 B- B+ C- B+ C D
$22,750,000 $24,500,000 $26,250,000
for a 3 year total of $73,500,000
It is hard to justify any contract less than 3 seasons as bad. Green will defy that next season. He is nowhere near the player he once was. He isn’t even that a great backup at this point in his career. He will be the big expiring that Outlawz uses with picks for a stud in two seasons though.
8.O.J. Mayo SG 31 B A B- B C C
$18,548,712 $20,234,958 $21,921,205 $23,607,451 $25,293,698
for a 5 year total of $109,606,024
Mayo is a nice addition for Greg but he is soon to be massively overpaid. His turnovers keep going up while his points keep going down. Mayo will be a capable starter for most of his contract but is going to severely hurt any teams title chances because of his cap number for the duration of his contract.
9. Michael Beasley PF 30 A- A C B- A- C
$20,312,500 $22,343,750 $24,375,000 $26,406,250 $28,437,500 $30,468,750
for a 6 year total of $152,343,750
Nanz had to give Beasley this contract when it was offered to him. However, the only way it will be justified is by a title coming to the Lakers. Beasley will be movable for most of his contract, but his value will never be the same
10. LaMarcus Aldridge PF 34 B C D A- A- D
$22,750,000 $24,500,000 $26,250,000
for a 3 year total of $73,500,000
Aldridge has held up a lot better than most thought he would. After his last TC, it is hard to believe that the end isn’t near. He should be valuable enough the next two seasons to not hurt the Blazers financially, but combining him with Darko and Monta will be.
Honorable Mention:
AJ Price
Brandon Jennings
Chris Paul
Darko Milicic
Jason Clark
Kemba Walker
Nenad Krstic
$26,789,128 $30,137,769 $33,904,990 $37,041,756
