Or contracts lowered.
21 teams are within about 3 million of the hard cap. That's ridiculous. contracts with huge tails are starting to kick teams' asses. Every deal I've tried negotiation had to be tippy-toed around because of the hard cap. How come contracts can be inflated by experience and players staying around long (Exhibit A: Dwight Howard), but the hard cap show no flexibility?
Some would argue make smarter free agent bids, but FBB is not a place where "smart" free agent bids accomplish anything.
In the end, I'm yelling into my pillow so to speak, but I might as well post this anyway.

Have to agree to some extent. I like the idea of parity and i like that this makes it harder to compete, but even shit teams are near the HC. I think a change to like 90 mil could work, and it won't make a huge difference as far as parity is concerned.

no. teams just need to stop maxing everyone and be smarter in free agency.

no. teams just need to stop maxing everyone and be smarter in free agency. I agree with that too, but I don't know how practical that is. I wonder if contracts that weren't so back-loaded would still be accepted at near the same rate. That's really what does it.

There's no way to lower contracts technically because sometimes that's the key in FA. I do think raising the HC could help some though but then again it also helps better teams too (i.e. the Knicks, Sonics of the league) stay better for longer.

What the NBA did was limit contracts to 6 year deals for Bird rights and 5 years for non-Bird Rights. And reduce increases from 12.% to 10% and 10% to 8%. That'd help a lot.

Just reduce the soft cap a couple mil. Why adjust the soft cap because of inflation of salaries, rather than the hard cap. Doesn't that seem backwards?

Another idea...
Simple do not allow GMs to go over the hard cap via trade or free agency. All deals/signings that violate that rule will be voided and the player placed back into free agency?

I think Outlawz idea is good. Jay it would be good because by lowering the soft cap it lowers the salaries that player sign.

the hard cap is fine, teams need to be more responsible with doling out max contracts to mediocre players. if anything, lower the soft cap a bit so teams can't offer as much but to be honest I like it the way it is.

yea, kinda pointless.
No matter how high you raised it teams would be close to it. They'd just spend more on the marginal talent.
