No way is Jay Z number 2. I'm definitely a fan of his, and Reasonable Doubt is one of my favorite albums, but none of his later works come close to what he put out early in his career. You didn't listen to the American Gangster album apparently. One of the best albums of all-time and the Black Album was also a classic. I was never a fan of Jay-Z until recently. He's top 2 hands down. Yeah, way to assume things. I've listened to both. American Gangster is an upgrade from his other studio albums, but it's no Reasonable Doubt. Same with the Black Album. The production on both albums is great but that doesn't cover for everything.

American Gangsta is GREAT....Jay is easily top 5 all time....IMO hes the greatest to pick up a mic I agree he's top 5. I think you have to put Biggie in front of him... he was a HUGE inspiration for alot of Jay's stuff as well.

I know a bunch of you are rap fans, pig specifically, so... who do you think are the top 10 rappes of all time? Here's my list. 1. 2Pac 2. Nas 3. Biggie 4. Rakim 5. Eminem 6. krs-1 7. Scarface 8. Jay - Z 9. Talib Kweli 10. Ice Cube I am not a rap fan at all. Sure I like a few songs but nothing special. Country and Metal here. Also Rakim came to watch one of our basketball games one time

I mean this question is widespread too.
If you mean bone thumping rap that gets you going. Pastor Troy has to be number 1.
Lyrical meaning. 2pac, Nas those guys
Actual Lyrics. Guys like Immortal Technique (even though he/there a neo-liberal piece of shit), Necro, Eyedea

AG was one of his best albums, but it is not one of the best albums of all time. It's solid, but come on man. who's #1 ? Lil' Wayne? GTFO What an ignorant assumption. Of course because I said Jay-Z and Nas aren't #1 I think Lil Wayne is. I mean, that's just logic. and yet you have yet to give us your number 1, funny.

That is almost sacreligious. No one has done or did what he did with American Gangster. You can't even call that an album, it's a fucking work of art.

American Gangster was a great album but it wasn't as good as Reasonable Doubt or The Blueprint.

No one has done or did what he did with American Gangster. You can't even call that an album, it's a fucking work of art. Jay-Z is NOT the first rapper to do a concept album. He's not even the best to do it. I don't really have a #1 because I don't quantify rappers like that. I think Tupac is probably the #1 of all time, because of his impact and because he basically embodies what modern rap is. But I think Biggie is a better rapper. I think Big is better than Jay-Z. I don't rank Nas at the top because I mean, he was doing songs like Oochie Wallie for a minute. Big L is a sick lyricist. Then I can't even comment on guys from the 80's and part of the early 90's because I wasn't around to assess their impact.

And we weren't even talking about the Blueprint, so I don't why you posed that question Because you completely ignored it when discussing Jay-Z's better albums. Personally, I'd say Blueprint is his best album.
