I had a semi-panic attack 5 seconds ago that Canisius stopped my youporn access after nothing wouldn't load. I felt a sigh of relief when I was notified by my roommate that he was having difficulty with you porn as well.

Attention All Students: The Recording Industry Association of America is sending inquiries to Washington & Jefferson College regarding individual accounts they suspect are sharing recorded and copyrighted material. All students are expected to follow Washington & Jefferson College's policy on computer usage: All users are prohibited from using the W&J local area network or Internet connection for any illegal purpose whatsoever including the exchange of copyrighted material protected by Title 17, U.S.C. Examples of protected copyrighted materials include, but are not limited to, music, software, video, images, etc The entire policy may be found at ITS The College is being notified by the RIAA concerning incidents where students have purchased an approved service but may be storing files in a shared/open folder that others can download from. This action still places you at risk. More information on computer usage may be found at ITS Policies If the College receives notification that you are in violation, the following action(s) must immediately be taken: *Discontinue and remove all peer to peer file sharing programs *Remove all illegally shared files *Take your computer to IT services to validate the removal of all programs and material *Schedule an appointment with Dean Stebbins to discuss this violation of College Policy and Federal Law Please remove all shared copyrighted material which constitutes violations of the federal laws concerning copyrighted material. Additionally, we recommend removing peer to peer file sharing programs. Failure to do so may place you at risk of receiving notice from the RIAA to pay a settlement or incur prosecution. Additionally, I strongly suggest you refer to the MUSIC Coalition's website at www.musicunited.org. Some penalties may include: "Criminal pen alties for first-time offenders can be as high as five years in prison and $250,000 in fines. "Civil penalties can run into many thousands of dollars in damages and legal fees. The minimum penalty is $750 per song." Thank you for your attention to this matter. This notification was approved by Dean McCrae, Vice President & Dean of Student Life. |

Our records indicate that the device at that address at that time is associated with you. You are required to reply to this electronic message no later than 20 Oct 2008.
You need to realize that sharing copyrighted material (text, music, videos or software) can be a violation of the law. The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) authorizes copyright holders to subpoena Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to obtain the identity of the person at a particular IP address if they can show reasonable evidence that copyright is being violated by peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing. It also authorizes copyright holders to file suit against copyright violators and seek damages of up to $1500 per title.
No subpoena has been filed in this case. This IP has been noticed and the agency feels that it has sufficient evidence that it could request a subpoena. You need to make sure that you are not violating copyright law. If you are using programs like Limewire, DC++, or some similar program, you need to realize that they force you to share material. You should uninstall these programs and be very cautious about installing successor programs. If you need assistance cleaning up you computer, please call the Help Desk at 7-6420 to request it.
This e-mail is notification that you are a first-time offender of the copyright protection portion of BU’s Acceptable Use Policy (http://its.binghamton.edu/policies/acceptable-use). Subsequent offenses will be referred to Student Judiciary and will very likely result in significant penalty.
